Pinnick: Super Eagles will reach Gabon 2017 and Russia 2018

NFF President Amaju Pinnick has expressed confidence that the Senior Men National Team, Super Eagles, will qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals.

The qualification series for the 2017 Cup of Nations (to be hosted by Gabon) will be concluded in September 2016, but the Eagles have what is seen as a group-decider, double-dose against the Pharaohs of Egypt in March, while the qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, to be staged in Russia, begin in October 2016.

The Nigeria Football Federation has announced the constitution of its Emergency Committee, with other standing committees and judicial bodies to be reconstituted in due course.

 

As prescribed by the Statutes, NFF President Amaju Pinnick is the chairman of the Emergency Committee, with 1^st Vice President, Barr. Seyi Akinwunmi as his deputy.

 

The membership of NFF Emergency Committee is drawn from across the geopolitical zones, with Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu (Chairman of the Technical and Development Committee) representing the South-East; Alh. Yusuf Ahmed Fresh (Chairman of the Referees Committee) representing the North-Central; Alh. Babagana Kalli (Chairman of the Players’ Status Committee) representing the North-East and; Ibrahim Musa Gusau (Chairman of Chairmen) representing the North-West.

 

NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, is the Secretary of the Emergency Committee.

 

It would be recalled that NFF President Amaju Pinnick announced the dissolution of the body’s 18 standing committees and two judicial bodies immediately after the 71^stAnnual General Assembly which took place in Abuja on December 16.

The Abia State Government has awarded contract for the reconstruction of the Umuahia Township Stadium in readiness for the kick-off of the 2015/16 Premier League season.

Chairman of Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia, Chief Emeka Inyama disclosed this at the club’s secretariat during an end-of-year get-together organized by the management and board for staff, supporters club and well wishers.

He disclosed that MONIMICHELLE Sports Facility Construction Limited will handle the reconstruction project, assuring that work will be completed before the beginning of the season.

The Nigeria Football Federation has commended the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports, Barr. Solomon Dalung, for his statement that the NFF should stick to a proper developmental framework for players of the U-17 and U-23 National Teams before approving International Transfer Ceritificates for these players.

Speaking on Tuesday, NFF President Amaju Pinnick said the Minister’s statement and general comments with regards to the monitoring of the players were in tandem with the plans of the Nigeria Football Federation for the glory boys.

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Lagos chapter, has called on the sports establishment and stakeholders in Nigerian football to be wary of any fresh crisis in the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, warning that it will constitute a drawback on the development of the sub-sector.

The Lagos SWAN statement is in reaction to recent statements credited to followers of club owner and former contestant for the NFF presidency, Chris Giwa, and purportedly to the office of the Minister of Sports, both seeking the dissolution of the current NFF board and the reinstatement of a Chris Giwa board.

Even in its quest to land its first Premier League title in Nigeria or at least pick a continental ticket in the forthcoming season, Chairman of Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia, Chief Emeka Inyama says the club will not be signing too many new players but would rather rely mostly on its old hands to realize its ambition.

Chief Inyama who disclosed this while speaking to newsmen in Umuahia, said the team will retain most of the players who featured for it last season while 90 per cent of the Technical Crew have also been retained in order to make room for continuity.
