As teams prepare for the 2013/2014 NNL season, the four teams that were relegated in the Nigeria Pemier League (NPL) Wikki Tourist of Bauchi, Kwara United and ABS FC both from Ilorin and 3SC of Ibadan will hope to fight their way back to the apex league Nigeria.
The newly promoted teams who gained promotion to the NPL will do everything possible to avoid
going back to the NNL but an interesting side in the NNL are the teams who gained promotion from the Nigeria Nationwide League (NNWL) a third level league in Nigeria to the NNL.
The teams do prefer to sell their NNL slot to the highest bidder. Already Kogi United who drowned in the NNL group A relegation water have found their way back to the NNL courtesy of Meridian FC of Kano while First bank FC of Lagos who went down two seasons back but failed to secure promotion have also found their way back to the NNL. How? you may ask, the Lagos team bought Grays FC slot.
According to the chairman of Meridian FC , Farouk Ibrahim who had a chat with Footyalert, the club gained promotion to the NNL but decided to sell their slot because they can't cope with the expenses in the NNL.
"We don't really get any help but we spend so much. If we are to play in the NNL then we shall spend even more" said Farouk Ibrahim
He further said they sold their NNL slot to Kogi United for an undisclosed amount.
A slot might be sold for as much as N10 million or even more.
Last season, Makwada FC, FC Ebedie made some cool cash from their slots courtesy of Adamawa United and Crown FC respectively.
