Chelsea Star Is Full Of Great Expectations For Super Eagles

The Super Eagles are gradually regaining the fear factor since they conquer Africa and such bragging right can only increase if the Nigerians put up a good show at the World Cup starting with the match against Iran in group F later tonight.

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel, has stated that
the pressure on Nigeria has since increased since the Super Eagles won the 2013Africa Cup of Nations hosted by South Africa.

Mikel who couldn't wear the green and white shirt of Nigeria at the World Cup in 2010 due to injury told his club, Chelsea FC official website that he is confident Nigeria can progress to the knock out stages.

"This is my first World Cup,"Mikel told Chelsea official website

"I want to make sure we achieve something coming here. We don't just want to come and make up the numbers, we want to do well,"

"I have to make sure I lead by example. We are all driving in the same direction. We all know what we want and hopefully we will have a good tournament,"

Mikel who had previously represented Nigeria at the FIFA U-17 & U-20 World Cup said the expectation as African champions only adds extra pressure on the Super Eagles to perform.

"We know we're the African champions and people expect us to do well, to represent the African continent. That's a bit more extra pressure but it's pressure that we love. We love to be African champions,"

Chelsea FC will be represented in the Super Eagles squad at the World Cup by John Obi Mikel, Kenneth Omeruo and Victor Moses and a lot is expected from the trio who will definitely start for Nigeria when they file out agains Iran later tonight in a group F match.

According to Mikel, the team is doing everything they can and also preparing well for a good show at the tournament.

"We're doing well, we're doing everything we can, we're preparing well,' he said. 'The result with Spain against the Netherlands shows anything is possible, so we have to make sure we approach games seriously and play well." Mikel concluded.
