It's still fresh in the memory of Nigerians, especially those that saw the match against South Africa in Uyo as the South Africans took a two goal lead right in front of the home fans but the come back by the Nigerians wasn't good enough to see the Super Eagles who are the defending champions of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) through to defend the title they won in 2013 at Equatorial Guinea in 2015.

The Super Eagles started 2014 with a friendly match on January 5 against Ethiopia in Abuja, the match ended- Nigeria 2-1 Ethiopia
On the 11th of January the Super Eagles recorded a loss in her first match at the African Nations Championship (CHAN)- Nigeria 1-2 Mali.
Nigeria bounced back with a win on the 15th of January with an impressive 4-2 win over Mozambique in their second match in the CHAN tournament.- Nigeria 4-2 Mozambique.
Four days later former Enugu Rangers winger, Ejike Uzoenyi propelled the Super Eagles to another impressive 3-1 win over South Africa in their third match in the CHAN.- Nigeria 3-1 South Africa
On the 25th of January 2014 still in the CHAN tournament, the Super Eagles produced a similar performance Nigeria did at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, 1989 against USSR and 1996 Olympics against Brazil when they came back to defeat Morocco 4-3 in the quarter final.
January 29, the semi final didn't favour Nigeria as the Super Eagles lost 1-4 on penalties to Ghana after a barren draw in the regular time.
Performance in January- played six matches, lost two, won four.
The Super Eagles started February with a lone goal victory over Zimbabwe in the CHAN losers final.- Nigeria 1-0 Zimbabwe.
Performance in February- played one match, won one.
March 5, the Super Eagles played a barren draw in a friendly with Mexico in Atlanta, USA.
Performance in March- played one match,drew one.
May 28, the Super Eagles played another in a friendly in London. Nigeria 2-2 Scotland.
Performance in May- played one match, drew one.
June 3 & 7, the Super Eagles were involved in a friendly with Greece and USA respectively. Nigeria 0-0 Greece. Nigeria 1-2 USA.
2014 FIFA World Cup matches, June 16,21,25,30, Nigeria played four matches at the World Cup - Nigeria 0-0 Iran, Nigeria 1-0 Bosnia Herzegovina, Nigeria 2-3 Argentina, Nigeria 0-2 France
Performance in June- played six matches, won one, drew two and lost three
September 6& 10, the Super Eagles started the AFCON qualifiers with a loss at home and a draw on the road. Nigeria 2-3 Congo, South Africa 0-0.
Performance in September- played two matches, lost one, drew one.
The AFCON qualifiers continued on the 11 & 15 of October, Nigeria lost one the road and won at home. Sudan 1-0 Nigeria, Nigeria 3-1 Sudan
Performance in October- played two matches, lost one and won one.
The decision day happened on the 19 of November when the Super Eagles drew 2-2 at home to South Africa.
