Enyimba FC of Aba Technical Adviser, Kadiri Ikhana has called on the League Management Company (LMC) to be firm in addressing the problems of the players and officials’ welfare in the Nigeria elite league.
Ikhana, who expressed worries over state of players and officials’ welfare said it is time the NFF and LMC take the bull by the horn by ensuring only clubs that are capable of meeting their financial obligations are registered to partake in the league.
The coach said though he has focused his attention on winning the league this season, the sad tales emanating from different clubs is disturbing hence his appeal to the league organisers to enforce stringent measures to curb the tide.
“It will be better the LMC insists on standards to save the country from this undue embarrassments. A situation whereby professional footballers are engaged and kept hungry to play until they are forced to go on strike to press home their demand is not right.
“I believe strongly that if it is only 12 clubs who are capable of meeting the demand of playing in the league are registered it will be better than having this crowd of 20 and most of them are ran as amateur sides.
“I also believe that if we have 12 clubs in our league, it will serve a better purpose. The LMC must put its feet down and dictate what must happen. I think it is wrong for us to want to do like other countries when we are not ready,” Ikhana lamented.
He said it is laughable that some of the clubs in the country are indebted to their players ranging from six months to two years; a situation he noted was affecting the performance of the players.
“It kills the morale of the players and if you ask me this is one of the reasons we as a nation is not producing winners again and yet we pride ourselves as the giant of Africa,” he said.
