Kano Pillars and Super Eagles defender, Jamiu Alimi has expressed confidence that Nigeria will pick up a ticket to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations despite the 2-0 loss at home to South Africa in their first match in the qualifiers.
Nigeria missed out of Africa's prime soccer tournament twice in a row after lifting the trophy in 2013.
"No player goes into a match with an intent to lose, it was just a bad day in the office. That's now in the past and it's important that we move on and learn from events of that match," Alimi told Footyalert
"This is the first loss in a long while and we must appreciate the fact that we've won some matches and even away from home. We still have a good chance to make it to the Africa Cup of Nations and I believe we shall achieve that.
The former Shooting Stars defender who wasn't invited for the match against South Africa maintained that it's the coach responsibility extend invitations to.
"It's left for the coach to call whoever he deem fit to invite but I know that if an invitation is extended to players playing in the domestic league we shall be glad to honor it and same thing goes to guys playing outside of the country too.
"As regards the CHAN call up, it'll be ideal to wait till the list is out first. If I was called upon I would gladly honor the call but we must acknowledge that the guys who were called up for the match tried their best,"Alimi concludes
