The New Media Journalists (NMJ) have urged the Super Eagles to defeat their South Africa counterparts in their 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers to honour former coaches of the team, Stephen Keshi and Amodu Shaibu, who died a year ago.
Keshi qualified and won the AFCON tournament for the country after defeating Burkina Faso in the final of the 2013 competition in South Africa.
Amodu on the other hand was in charge of the team in winning bronze medals on two occasions.
Nigeria will face Bafana Bafana in the matchday 1 of the qualification for Cameroon 2019 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Saturday.
The NMJ in a message of encouragement to the Super Eagles urged them to give the match at home to Bafana Bafana their best shot and was confident that they would put smiles on the faces of football loving Nigerians, following their recent impressive display in friendly games against Corsica and Togo respectively.
The message signed by NMJ coordinator, Alonge Akinlolu said, "This is a difficult mission but we believe the Super Eagles have put their failure to qualify for two consecutive editions of the tournament behind them and are prepared to win emphatically on Saturday and start the journey on a good footing."
"The Super Eagles are the symbol of football in Nigeria, which means that they are the heartbeat of the country so the team must do everything possible to qualify."
"We thank the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), technical and management team of the Super Eagles for their hard work and urge them not to relent in their efforts to ensure that the team is battle ready on Saturday.
The NMJ also appealed to Super Eagles supporters to remember the Gernot Rhor managed side in their prayers as they have always done and fill the Stadium to give their maximum support to the success of the team.
