Honourable Godfrey Gaiya, the Federal House of Representatives Committee on Sports’ Chairman, on Monday made a whistle-stop at the Golden Eaglets Princeville Hotel Camp in Calabar to witness firsthand the welfare of the team.
Gaiya who stayed behind in Calabar after watching the Super Eagles 2-0 spanking of Malawi in the 2014 World Cup qualifier at the weekend ,said it was expedient for him to visit the team in his
personal and official capacity, adding that the National Assembly is duly monitoring the progress of the team. Earlier on Sunday, Gaiya and his entourage including the trio of Honourable Adamu Gwari, Barrister Usman Ibrahim and Mr. Yaqub Ishaq watched the team beat Abuja-based Amakson Football Academy 4-2 at the U. J Esuene Sports Stadium.
"I'm happy that I've finally had the time to visit you today and I'm really impressed with your camping environment provided by the Cross River State government in conjuction with the NFF" he started."We in the House of Representatives have been monitoring you and we are happy
that you have always been doing your best.” The Honourable said he was not oblivious of the fact that he's a father-figure to the Golden hence a personal donation of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira to the team even as he urged the players to be disciplined in order to fulfil their potentialities.
He said the members of the House are indeed happy with the performance of the National Under-17 team in recent time, adding that the National Assembly would impress it on relevant governmental agencies to support the team. He equally thanked members of the technical crew for their
high sense of responsibility since they were entrusted with the job almost two years ago.
While the Head coach Manu Garba (MFR), thanked the Honourable and his entourage for the suprise visit, Golden Eaglets' vice captain, Success Isaac noted that the team cannot afford to disappoint in Dubai.
“We want to thank you sir for visiting us today despite your tight schedule and for staying behind to see us after the Super Eagles match on Saturday," said Success, top scorer at the CAN Under-17 in
Morocco."We did not achieve our target in Morocco but your visit today has given us further idea about what Nigerians expect from us and we won't disappoint by the grace of God."
