    Chief Coach of the Super Eagles, Stephen OkechukwuKeshi, veteran sport journalist, Paul Bassey and Jelili Ogunmuyiwa yesterday received the Award trophies in a brief ceremony organised by Matchmakers Consult International, organisers of the Nigeria Pitch Awards in Lagos.

    Speaking at the occasion, Shina Philips, Matchmakers Consult Managing Director said the brief ceremony was organised to give the award winners the opportunity to receive their award trophies and plaques in a ceremony and environment a keen to the elaborate main Award Ceremony held in Calabar on Saturday, 16 November 2014. He also stated that decisions on winners were made by close to hundred voters spread across the thirty-six states of the nation making the award very credible and widely accepted.

    Stephen Keshi received the award for the Coach of the Year (2013) while Jelili Ogunmuyiwa was honoured as the Referee of the Year (2013). Paul Bassey got the Special Recognition in Football Award for his invaluable contributions to the growth of sports journalism in Nigeria and Africa.

    While receiving his award, Coach Stephen Keshi thanked Alhaji Aminu Maigari and the Board of the Nigeria Football Federation for having faith in him and entrusting him with the responsibility of handling the Super Eagles. He spoke glowingly of the contributions of his coaching team and the players who have made his success a possibility.

    The second edition of the Nigeria Pitch Awards will take place later in the year.

    Golden Eaglets' technical crew raised the tempo of the team's training regimen on Monday with strenuous fitness exercise, even as lion-hearted Kehinde Ayinde returns to full training.

     The clubs have been grouped to two groups with round-robin format adopted with the top teams in each group making it to the finals.
