Kogi United and Kwara United are set to light up Confluence Stadium, Lokoja on Saturday in a North-Central derby encounter in the Matchday seven of the Nigeria National League, NNL.

Both aides met last in the 2013/2014 NNL season with a 2-1 victories recorded in both legs for either side.

The match on Saturday would determine how impressive the season could be for both teams as they aim to pick one of the tickets to promotion at the end of the season.

Mayaki said his side have been fired up to return to winning streak after losing their last two fixtures on the road to Kaduna United and Yobe Desert Stars respectively.

"We are in top form to play Kwara United this weekend, it's the best time for us to play them and wrong time for them to play us because of our present form and mentality," begins the former Rangers Int'l midfielder.

Nigeria Women Premier League - Week Five Preview

The Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) takes centre stage at the midweek with some exciting match up across seven centres.

The first game of the week five round of matches will see Bayelsa Queens square up against Moses Adikwu's Heartland Queens at the Nembe City Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Tarila Okorowanta's wards will no doubt be aware of the importance of the game as a defeat at home will be a huge setback to their Super Four bid.

Heartland, however, will like to pick maximum points and move up in the Group A log.

The action continues at the Lafia City Stadium where Nasarawa Amazons will look to build on their success against Saadatu Amazon as they play host to Pelican Stars.

Amazons are currently top of the Group B log and a win could see them pull away from their rivals.

Pelican Stars' last three league games saw them pick just one point. Their head-to-head record of one win, two draws and three defeats in six meetings with Amazons since 2013 makes this clash a tough one for them.

Lokoja will go agog as Confluence Queens battle with Saadatu Amazon in the North-Central Derby.

The New Direction Queens will surely fancy their chances against a side yet to record a point so far in the campaign.

In Port Harcourt, Rivers Angels will hope to feast on Sunshine Queens.

Sunshine Queens' gaffer Wemimo Matthew and her scientific soccer team will have to count on the experience of Ijeoma Obi to get all three points against a free scoring Rivers Angels side who have Cynthia Aku leading their attack.
Aku already has scored two goals this season and will look to add to that at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium.

Ibom Angels will count on the form of their talismanic striker Charity Reuben against a well drilled Abia Angels' team.

Vastly improved Delta Queens and unbeaten Adamawa Queens will light up the Kwale Township Stadium.

Elsewhere, Edo Queens will hope to compound the woes of off-form Osun Babes at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

This Might Be The Turning Point For Enugu Rangers

Former Enugu Rangers gaffer, Imama Amapakabo has a big heart, he is one of the best in the Nigeria Professional Football League. He may have left  the Flying Antelopes due to series of poor results which I think isn't all  about technical input but more of some not too pleasant episodes outside of the pitch. He had a technical crew that believed in him based on what I saw in their camp in Benin during their preseason in 2016.

I heard and saw the confidence with which the Team Manager of Enugu Rangers, Amobi Ezeaku spoke, coaches on the Imama's technical crew at the time, Tony Bolus, Chukwuma Agbo and Gabreil Ezema kept saying that to lift the trophy is what they are looking at even when the 2016 season hasn't started. They were ready to work to deliver the unbelievable dream of being Nigerian champions.

We have gone past 2016  but a fantastic group of friends at Enugu Rangers made sure they broke a 32 years jinx to lift a major trophy.

Fast forward to April 2017, Rangers are 20th on the NPFL table with 13 points from 14 matches. they have five important outstanding matches to play and that journey will start today, Sunday April 23.
This Might Be The Turning Point For Enugu Rangers

That turning point may start today. Rangers lacked speed and mobility in attack and has been the reasons why the Flying Antelopes haven't so many goals. They have added some players to their squad which will definitely make instant impact and barring any form of injury, these players will form a deadly combo that will score goals aplenty.

I'll focus on these two players; Chidera Eze and Bright Silas-  Chidera Eze is another form of Chisom Egbuchulam. He's got Plenty of speed on and off the ball, a very good finisher and when he decides to serve his solo run, the fans in the stands will stand up to celebrate a good goal.  Bright Silas brings speed from the wings, his crosses are in most cases spot on.

With Bobby Clement who I see as a hard worker creating that support for Eze and the creative flow from Godwin Aguda and Obinna Nwobodo still intact then I think it's time to start hearing the loud celebrations of goals scored at the Cathedral again.

Bright and Eze have the capacity to reverse attack to defense with their high speed pressing in attack. The inclusion of  Ifeanyi George will add to the creativity of the side,  initiating quick combinations and good finishes. The combination of these new inclusions in attack has proven potent with Rangers scoring 15 goals in two FA Cup games recently(9-1 and 6-0).

I just heard some asked that those are against an amateur sides but lets keep the fingers crossed but I know so well that these inclusions will make Rangers journey out of the relegation zone a positive one.

Rivers United Makes CAFCC Group Stage

Ten-Man Rivers United FC of Nigeria on Saturday knocked reigning Rwanda Peace Cup champions, Rayon Sports out of the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup after a drama-filled goalless draw in the return leg of the Playoff round at a rocking Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

On Saturday, Rayon Sports were required to win 2-0 to take the tie into extra time or 3-0 to win it outright and advance the group stage but ‘Gikundiro’ met an immovable object in the shape of the ‘Pride of Rivers’.

United played with a man less for more than half an hour in the second half against a Rayon side back by a vociferous home crowd but grit, resolve and the never-say-die-Nigerian spirit was evident in the gladiatorial display which eventually proved to be the tide that carried Nigeria’s sole survivor in 2017 Inter CAF club competitions to safety.
Rivers United Makes CAFCC Group Stage

United withstood predictable early pressure from the hosts and nearly silenced the Amahoro by snatching a shock lead, albeit an own goal, by Rayon Sports in the 18th minute.

Sakin did well to cross from the left but his dangerous delivery was diverted away for a corner by Jerry Mutsinzi with Guy Kuemian lurking on his shoulder.

Ten minutes later, the United players heaved a collective sigh of relief to see the score still even as Kwizera Pierrot curled a free kick inches wide from 25 yards but the boys from Nigeria seemed to exemplify men on a mission.

They hit back almost immediately through Sakin who almost gave them the lead on the stroke of half time but saw his volley fly just over Ndayisimiye Eric’s right hand post with the Rayon Sports goalkeeper in no man’s land.
Rivers United Makes CAFCC Group Stage

Rayon predictably stepped on the accelerator after the break but met the United rear guard in uncompromising form.

As Rayon pressed further up the pitch, United looked to exploit gaping holes and almost made them pay in the 54th minute when Emeka Ogbugh embarked on a mazy run on the right only to see his strike from a tight angle fly inches over the bar.

Three minutes later, Rayon Sports seemed to have been handed a lifeline as Ifeanyi Nweke received a red card for catching Savio Dominique with a high boot.

Rayon could smell blood; they honed in for the kill with wave after wave of unrelenting attacks but the Nigerians stood their ground, defending in gladiatorial fashion to produce a heroic shut out.

Nahimana Shassir almost set up a grand stand finish with a superb effort that almost crept into Rotimi’s far post late in the second half but Lady luck was wearing a white vest on the day!

Rayon Sports head coach, Masoud Djuma was predictably downcast at full time but praised United as deserved winners of the tie.

“We lost to a better and more experienced side today and I want to say congratulations to Rivers United for their qualification,” Djuma exclusively told our official website, www.riversunitedfc.com.ng.

Technical manager of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma also took the time to discuss his side’s progress to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup at the club’s first time of asking.

“It was a tough match but it was what we expected.

“We had a tactical plan and even after we had a man sent off, we did not panic.

“I am pleased that we were able to get the job done and qualify for the group stage of the competition,” he said.

Lack Of Goals Worries Kogi United Striker

Kogi United's striker John Jerome has express worry by his side's lack of goals this season and is confident he can still make the difference.

The United forward has been struggling to find his best form, waiting to register his first league goal of the season from six games netting just twice only in the State FA Cup.

Jerome scored nine goals for Kogi United in all completions with seven coming from 11 abridged NNL games.

The combative striker is however not interested in personal success, though, and is adamant winning laurels and securing promotion ticket for the Confluence state club are all that matter come the end of the season.

"It's worrisome, we've been doing our best to get goals, both home and away, our build ups have been excellent but we need that final touch to bury chances, I'm disturbed about it, but we will get past this soon," begins the former Gateway United forward.

"There is no denying that I have had better scoring times, but I am not taking myself too seriously and I still believe in myself. I am convinced that I can still be decisive for Kogi United.

"What matters most to us as a team is that we keep an eye on our objectives. A team consists of more than just 11 players. We want to win trophies in the end and we all feel good if we can make that happen.

"Individual statistics are completely irrelevant in that case. Winning a promotion ticket and winning laurels is all that matters. I will not let anybody ruin my fun if we win trophies."

Kogi United have scored just three times in five league games this season, occupying ninth on the log with six points.
They will take on Kwara United in their next league game in Lokoja.

#FootyBiz : Mistakes Proprietors Of Football Academy In Nigeria Must Avoid

Thinking of investing into a Football Academy in Nigeria?

Nigeria is blessed with amazing talents, football being the most followed sport in Nigeria isn't just about passion, the business opportunities it offers is endless.

One of such opportunities is discovering of talent, nurture and make available for the big stage.

While a lot of investors have fixed their focus to the big stage where these talents will be available in the transfer market to close big deals, it's a known fact that a lot goes into owning a football academy where these talents who are in the rough will be sharpened and prepared for the big stage

Footyalert in a chat to the Football Academy Director at Clique Sports, Kitan Olateru-Olagbegi. explained on practical terms what it takes to run a football academy in Nigeria.

"One of the biggest mistakes proprietors of football academies make in Nigeria is to assume the football development business is a quick fix and an avenue to make quick money,"  Kitan Olateru-Olagbegi told Footyalert

"True Academy directors are individuals with a long term plan and a hunger to help discover and nurture special talents which are abound all over the country."

"When I refer to special talents, I want to ensure I am not misunderstood. Special talents are not magical people from another planet. They are rather those who are willing to put in the hard work and effort, training and receiving feedback from their coaches and managers."

"The Academies that will develop  talent successfully are therefore not necessarily those with the most start up money but actually those who can successfully provide an environment for special talents to express and exhibit that talent."
