  • Prime FC Set To Resume On February 8

    Nigeria National League (NNL) side, Prime Football Club will resume training on Monday February 8, 2016 in preparation for the new season.

    The spokesperson of the club, Tunde Shamsudeen, confirmed the development after the board meeting of the Management Committee of the team, and said the team will thereafter map out the 2016 programmes.

    "We are reporting back to training on Monday February 8, to prepare for the new season, we have asked our players to report to camp February 7, then plans on how best we shall approach the new season will commence," he told newsmen at the Oshogbo Township Stadium. 

    Prime finished fourth on the NNL Zone B standings having missed promotion by whiskers on the last league day.

    However, the Omoluabi Giant management have re-activate the existing kit deal with local manufacturers Owu sportswears for the new season.

  • Confluence Queens Declares Forward Carine Ndum AWOL

    Lokoja based Nigeria Women Premier League, NWPL side, Confluence Queens FC have confirmed their attacking midfielder Carine Yoh Ndum is missing after the player has refused to resume back to the club.

    The Cameroonian forward Carine, was signed during the 2013/14 season from Panthere Security Football Filles, Garoua in Cameroon.


    The creative midfielder who was still expected at the club has been reportedly signed for Turkey Women League side, Atasehir Belediyespor through the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF's International Transfer Certificate ( ITC) without the knowledge of Confluence Queens.

    However, Confluence Queens who have officially reported the matter to the NFF, has vowed to get to the root of the matter on Carine's transfer according to the club spokesperson Tosin Ojo.

    “We can officially confirm to you that one of players, Carine Ndum has been missing from the club," begins Ojo.

    “She was supposed to have resumed with us since 4th of January, and the report we gathered was that she has signed for a Turkish Women Football club Atasehir Belediyespor without our knowledge, and was cleared by the Nigeria Football Federation's ITC.

    “We are very frown at the decision of the NFF to award a player an ITC without the consent of her club, its a breach of trust from the federation.

    “We have written to the NFF to clear us of any doubt as to why our player was granted an ITC without informing us.”

    “Carine Ndum is our player as we duly cleared her from Panthere Security Football Club of Cameroon, and any club that want her service must contact us.”

    “Atasehir Belediyespor are making a great mistake signing a player without involving her club. How on earth is it done? this has been a regular misgivings in women football transfers in Nigeria, we will not relent on our efforts until we ensure those involved in this illegal deal are brought to book.” Ojo concludes in a statement.

    Confluence Queens finished 6th in the last NWPL season after competed at the Super Six competition in Umuahia, Abia State in 2015.

    Nigeria has been asked to be on standby to host the 2016 African Rugby Cup 1C Tournament in case Morocco fails to meet up with obligations to host the tournament. Nigeria lost the bid to the North African country due to security reasons.

     

    It will be recalled that Nigeria placed a bid to host the 2016 Africa Cup 1C in Lagos but according to Rugby Africa, after careful considerations, the Executive Committee awarded the hosting rights to Morocco as they cited security reasons.

     

    According to a mail sent to the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation last week, through Coralie Vandenberg; the operations manager of Rugby Africa, the apex rugby body in Africa; she said “despite agreeing that host city, Lagos might be incident free, some countries could feel unsecure and choose not to travel which would jeopardize the tournament”.

     

    They resolved that should Morocco be faced with the same security threats or no longer in a position to host the tournament, the executive committee will reconsider its position and advise sufficiently ahead of time. 

     

    Speaking with the President of The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation Sir, Fom Edward Pam in Abuja: he expressed his displeasure over the news saying that the move to host the African Cup 1C here in Nigeria is part of the Federation’s strategy to popularize the sport in the country. ‘However we will not let this distracts us from our goal to get promoted to 1B.

    The Vice President of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation, Olatunji Fasimoye has announced that the federation will come up with its calendar for 2016 by next week.

    According to him, the federation had to wait for its mother body which is Rugby Africa before coming out with its own for the sake of synergy.
    "Already as it is, we already have our internal plans and we just got the plans of Rugby Africa last week."

  • Gold Cup Pre-Season tourney gets new date

    The third edition of Gold Cup Pre-Season Tournament scheduled to take place at the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu Ode from January 31 to February 9, has been rescheduled to hold between Thursday February 4, through Saturday February 13, 2016 at same venue.

    The tournament was announced to be postponed by the General Coordinator of the tournament, Tunde Shamsudeen, stating that Ogun State Government want to use the stadium from January 27 to February 2, as part of activities marking the 40 years of the state existence. 

    Shamsudeen stated further that new arrival date for all teams is now Wednesday February 3, and regret any inconveniences the postponement might cause. 

    The participating teams are Shooting Stars, FC Ebedei, FC Yarmalight, Supreme Court, Ikorodu United, FC Ifeanyi Ubah, Crown FC, Remo stars and Lobi Stars.

    Sharks FC of Port Harcourt won the last edition and there is a giant befitting trophy for this year winner courtesy of Senator Abdul Fatai Buhari.

    Team manager Sunshine Stars International Football Club of Akure, Prince Gabriel Duro Aborowa, has been appointed the acting chairman of Ondo State Football Association, as the FA boss, Otunba Dele Ajayi, go on annual leave. 

    Olusho, as the astute football administrator is fondly called, is a member of the state FA and his appointment was sequel to the suspension of the Vice-Chairman Dele Ologbese.

    According to the appointment signed by the state FA secretary Daodu Alex and made available to newsmen;  "I am directed by the Executive Chairman of Ondo State Football Association that the appointment of Mr. Aborowa G.D, as the Acting Chairman takes immediate effect pending the time the Chairman will return from annual leave."

    "This is sequel to the suspension of the Vice-Chairman Ondo State Football Association, Mr. Dele Ologbese."

    The management of Nationwide League One side, Fountain Youths Sports Club of Ado Ekiti, has stated that the team was floated to create a platform for empowerment and the development of youths in the town.

    The team boss Bayo Olanlege, said they floated the club to serve as a platform to develop and empower the youths in Ekiti State and South West in general.

    "Fountain Youths Sports Club will be a model in few years to come that other clubs will emulate. The vision is to ensure total transformation, speedy development as well as entrenchment of true professionalism."

    FYSC has produced players for the junior national teams among who are Sunday Alimi of the 2015 Eaglets, Lekan Akinola, Taiwo Adebisi  and Ayosunkanmi Oso won Gold with the National U-15 in Botswana. 

    "We will make sure we put in-place all that will make the team a truly professional side, and it will also serve as avenue to develop our youths. We are looking up to see how exceptional players from our team will form the bedrock of the Super Eagles and leading European club sides."

    He stated that they have put in-place all machineries that will make the team a force to be reckon with in Nigeria football.

    However, in readiness for the new season, FYSC have acquired a 15 room building to use as camp and has fixed February 15, 2016 as resumption date. 

    The management has began state trials in 10 states and will organized a 7-Day competition from January 24 to January 30 at the Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti, where players that will represent the team in the league will be picked.

  • NFF set to hold CAF License ‘A’ coaching course

    The Nigeria Football Federation has concluded arrangements to organize the esteemed CAF License ‘A’ Coaching Course – the highest workshop for coaches in the African continent.

     

    NFF’s Assistant Director (Technical), Mr. Abdulrafiu Yusuf, told thenff.com on Monday that the much –awaited CAF License ‘A’ course will start on February 21, and last for four weeks.

     

    “This is a course that most Nigerian coaches have been looking forward to. We have notified the Confederation of African Football and we are making all necessary arrangements to have a successful program.

     

    “The forms are now available for sale at the Accounts department of Nigeria Football Federation. It is important that interested and qualified persons pick up their forms sale to help our planning,” said Abdulrafiu Yusuf, a former Nigeria international player.

     

    It would be recalled that the NFF has conducted a number of CAF License ‘C’ and CAF License ‘B’ coaching courses over the past five years. But this is the first CAF License ‘A’ course to be conducted.

     

    The latest was a CAF License ‘B’ coaching course that took place November 15 – 29, 2015 and attracted about 80 participants.

    The management of Nigeria Women Premier League, NWPL, side, Confluence Queens Football Club have confirmed former Kogi United assistant coach Ibrahim Adewumi Shola as the new Head coach for the 2015/16 season.

    The Lokoja based team who finished 6th at the just concluded NWPL season deemed it necessarily fit the need to have some shake up in the technical department of the club to ensure a better preparation for the fourth coming season.

    On Tuesday, the Super Eagles B lashed the University of Pretoria 3-0 in a test game at the school, with two goals from forward Tunde Adeniji and one from midfielder Ifeanyi Mathew. 

    Nigeria’s home –based senior boys, who arrived in Pretoria on Saturday and commenced training on Sunday, are using the encounter as a big test ahead of the 4thAfrican Nations Championship starting in Rwanda on January 16.

    Head Coach Sunday Oliseh arrived in Pretoria ahead of the group and said on Tuesday that he is looking ahead to the clash with the skillful Angolans.

    Angola finished as runner-up at the 2nd African Nations Championship in Sudan five years ago, while Nigeria finished in third place at the 3rd edition in South Africa in 2014.

    Wednesday’s clash comes five days before another top duel – a friendly with Cote d’Ivoire at the same Tuks University Stadium.

    The Super Eagles B delegation will fly into Rwanda on January 15, three days before the team trade tackles with neighbours-to-the-north Niger Republic in their first match of the tournament, at the astro-turf Stade Regional Nyamirambo on the outskirts of Kigali.

    Nigeria’s hopefuls, to be captained by left –back Chima Akas in the absence of forward Gbolahan Salami, will also play Tunisia and Guinea in Group C, with the match against the Guineans scheduled for the city of Rubavu.

Goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa, defenders Austin Oboroakpo and Chima Akas, Olympic Team midfielders Usman Mohammed and Yaro Bature and forward Chisom Chikatara headline a list that also includes Enyimba FC’s skillful winger Ezekiel Bassey, former junior international Ifeanyi Mathew and the Sunshine Stars’ trio of Paul Onobi, Prince Aggrey and Tunde Adeniji.     Former junior international goalkeeper Femi Thomas, Shooting Stars’ central defender Jamiu Alimi and former Supersand Eagles’ ace Bartholomew Ibenegbu have also been included.     The Eagles B team, alongside technical and backroom staff, flew out of the country on Saturday afternoon to Cape Town, South Africa, where a 10 –day pre-Championship training camp has been arranged, alongside two friendly games against fellow Rwanda –bound Angola and Cote d’Ivoire on January 6 and 11 respectively. Oliseh arrived South Africa ahead of the delegation.     Nigeria’s Super Eagles B finished third at the 3rd African Nations Championship held in South Africa in 2014, and Sunday Oliseh’s invigorated squad aims to win the Cup in Rwanda on February 7.     The Eagles B will campaign in Group C of this year’s championship alongside 2011 winners Tunisia, Niger Republic and Guinea, with matches to be played at the Stade Regional Nyamirambo, Kigali.
