Abia Warrios Showed MFM Too Much Respect- says Biffo

After their 2-1 loss to league leaders, Abia Warriors gaffer, Abdullahi Biffo stated that perhaps his boys showed too much respect to MFM.

Two goals in the first half from Stephen Odey, Sikirul, Olatunbosun and another consolation goal from  Abia Warriors’ Sunday Adetunji late in the match ensure Nigeria Professional Football League table toppers, MFM moved a point clear at the top after Wednesday's  match day 16 encounter at the Agege stadium.

“May be my boys showed too much of respect to them and by the time they realized, they had conceded two goals,” Biffo told Footyalert

“Though I didn't see the first half to know how both teams played but during the break I told them they need to wake up.”

“I wasn't around to see the first half but I told them that  they have to bury the  chances that comes their way.MFM got their chance and nailed it so Abia Warriors too should convert their's too.”

“That reflected in our second half performance as everyone up their game. We tried not to concede more goals but while trying to defend we pushed and got a goa.”

“But it wasn't enough. I give kudos to the boys. Considering the results MFM has recorded this season, every team that plays against them must prepare very well.”
“We knew we have to be at our best to beat them. Well, we have lost to day to them but we shall go back home, correct our mistake and to regroup.”

Sixth placed Abia Warriors have 22 points from 16 matches .

Niger Tornadoes Dare Ifeanyi Ubah In Nnewi

With two successive home wins against Akwa United and  Sunshine Stars, confident Niger Tornadoes will be the guest of FC Ifeanyi Ubah in match day 16 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) at the Ifeanyi Ubah International Stadium on Wednesday.

The Abubakar Bala' wards will head in to Wednesday's game brimming with lot of confident and knowing a result will further boost their hopes of targeting a continental spot, even while that ambition had been played down by the gaffer.

Fourth on the log with 24points from 15 games played so far, the Ikon Allah boys will face a rejuvenated FC Ifeanyi Ubah led by Yaw Preko who almost ran out with victory against Akwa United only for them (FC Ifeanyi Ubah) to share the spoils with the Promise Keepers courtesy of  Alhassan Ibrahim’s  late goal to deny Anambra Warriors the maximum points.

Niger Tornadoes will be with bulk of the players that was involved in match day 15 against Sunshine Stars in Lokoja with no major absentee Andrew Ikefe looks doubtful but will be accessed by the team medics to know the extents of the knock he received on his right knee on Sundayevening.

Club captain Mustapha Aliko, Bolaji Adeyemo, Ifeanyi Okoye, Wakili Ibrahim, Lukas Yahaya, Gabriel Jeremiah, Peter Momoh and Chidiebere Ajoku are all included in match day squad.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah coach Yaw Preko will rely on the fire power of Prince Aggreh, Ifeanyi Onuigbo, and goalkeeper Bamba Drissa. While Tamen Medrano, Seka Pascal, Jimoh Oni are expected to be involved in the match day squad.

Niger Tornadoes gaffer, Abubakar Bala has respect for his host but nonetheless he has told his boys to give all they could to secure the maximum points or at worst share the spoils which he said would be fair.

“FC Ifeanyi Ubah are a good side, we will give them their respect but you know football is a 90 minute game and it is only at the end you will get to know the result”, Coach Bala said.

Coach Bala added, “I know my boys and I have already told them how to implement the strategies we have laid out to ambush the Anambra Warriors in their own backyard”.

"Last season we qualified for the final and narrowly lost to Rivers Angels. We have a great squad with players who can become champions in future.

"The squad is totally concentrated on Osun Babes, as it's important for us to start on the right foot with three points."

Lola Philips: Confluence Queens good enough

Lola Philips believes Confluence Queens should be strong enough to pick up a result this midweek away to Delta Queens.

Her teammates have already insinuated a similar notion  earlier this week and forward Philips is in agreement - the New Direction Queens goes into Wednesday's match away to the 2012 Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) champions.

“We are good enough to compete at the Kwale Township Stadium. It will be very difficult, though, because they will respect Confluence Queens a lot,” reflected the forward to Nwfl.com.ng

“It is the first League game and they will be playing at home, but we must play our game, work our new signings into the team and start the season with a good result.

“We know they have their philosophy. They will start the game very strong, try to pressure us, but we should also start well, be strong and take the risks that we have to take.”

Confluence Queens are in the Group B of the 2017 Premier League season.

OWU Sportswear Brand Set To Take Over Africa

Nigeria’s leading kit manaufacturer, OWU Sportswear is set to take a bold step on the continent as the CEO of the Nigerian brand, Tunji Brown has revealed that discussion is at advance stage to kit clubs in Kenya, Ghana and Cameroon.

Named as the best Sportswear brand in Nigeria by the League Bloggers Award, OWU Sportswear has continued to raise the bar in the domestic scene, after signing its first kit deal with one of Nigeria’s biggest football brand, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) in 2010, the Lagos base outfit has grown to kit more than half of the 20 teams in Nigeria elite league and still has strong presence in the lower league, the amateur leagues and in grassroot football.

“In terms of acceptance, it has been good and we are actually growing if we consider where we started from with a Nigerian elite league club, Shooting Stars in 2010. Now in 2017 in the Premier League, we have six clubs that wear our kits and before the season runs out we are likely to have one more club join the OWU brand. In the Nigeria National League (second tier league in Nigeria) we have 10 clubs signed to the OWU kits. So it’s obvious that we are doing fine,” OWU Sportswear CEO, Tunji Brown told Footyalert
OWU Sportswear Brand Set To Take Over Africa

“We don’t only have presence in the top two leagues in Nigeria alone, in a few weeks time we shall announce some clubs in the amateur division and going by various competitions that we kit as well it’s obvious that we have a presence in the 36 states in the country and including the Federal capital, Abuja so based on that I will consent to the fact we are doing well.”

With all the manufacturing process done in their Lagos factory, the OWU Sportswear brand has opened discussions with clubs in Kenya, Ghana and Cameroon in a move to spread through the African continent.

“Very soon, Africa will see the brand, OWU because the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) All Stars U17 currently participating in an international competition in South Africa have OWU kits on them. We are in discussions with teams in Kenya, Ghana and in Cameroon. So as soon as we sort out the details then we shall go live in those countries I mentioned.”
“My ideal situation of kitting clubs in the Nigerian league would be when every fan in Nigeria can wear the replicas of their teams to go see matches not using foreign club jerseys,” Brown concludes

Crown’s Afolabi Reveals Plan To Defeat Osun United

Crown FC striker, Afolabi Timothy has revealed that the Ajilete Boys have the right plan to humble Osun United when both teams meet at the Soun stadium in a week 3 Nigeria National League (NNL) tie on Sunday.

Osun United looked to have started the season on a high as they are yet to lose after two matches. The Omoluabi Giants have picked four points from two matches and sit 7th on the NNL Southern Conference table while the host, Crown has three points from two matches.

The goal poacher who joined the Ogbomoso outfit from Karamone FC at the start of the season took his preseason form to the new NNL season having gotten an assist in two matches. His presence in the box has been a major worry for opponents, his physic, pace and creative moves from the wings to the box is no doubt an advantage for Crown.

The southwest derby will pull a capacity crowd to the Soun stadium and Afolabi believes that the ever passionate Ogbomoso fans will play a key part in the match with their continuous cheers just he predicts a 2-0 win for the home team.

“We had a very good preparation before the start of the season, having that mental strength is needed at this level because of the number of matches each teams will play this season. We shall host Osun United on Sunday here in Ogbomoso and I am confident that we shall secure a win,” Afolabi told Footyalert
“Osun United is not going to be a hard nut for us to crack because we have studied their style and approach to games.  We have a detailed information about all our opponents and it’s a continuous thing. If we compare player to player, we have a bunch of highly talented players and we play as  a strong unit. Even if you consider the head to head, we still have an edge over them. They have not picked a point here in Ogbomoso and that will continue on Sunday. As much as I admit that it will be a tough contest, I still predict that we shall record a 2-0 win,”

After playing their season opener against Ikorodu United which they won 1-0 behind closed door, the fans will have an opportunity to see the Ajilete Boys entertain them but Afolabi has charged the fans to continue to support the team.

“We played our first match behind closed door against Ikorodu United and we won but on Sunday the fans will be opportune to see us play, their support will motivate us. They should come out and be that important 12th player of Crown,” Afolabi stated.

Nigeria, Burkina Faso Friendly Has Been Called

The Super Eagles’ second international friendly, against Burkina Faso in London on Monday, has been called off after seven players in the Burkinabe contingent failed to secure entry visas into the United Kingdom. The other players are able to enter the UK.

Chairman of the NFF Technical and Development Committee, Barrister Chris Green told thenff.com in London: “We regret to announce that the second friendly match we had scheduled for the Super Eagles as part of preparations for the remaining matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying series and the beginning of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualification race would no longer take place on Monday, 27th March 2017.

“The match in question is called off due to no fault of either the organizers or the Nigeria Football Federation. We will announce further plans for the Super Eagles’ preparation for these two important qualifying campaigns in due course.”

There is no British Embassy in Ouagadougou, and officials of the Federation Burkinabe de Football had been shuttling between Accra and Ouagadougou for visa processing. FBF sources said the Embassy in Accra told them last week to proceed to Morocco (where the Etalons played the Atlas Lions on Friday) and that the visas would be issued there.

However, the applications were still pending at the British Embassy in Morocco as at close of work on Friday, the last working day before match day in London.

The Burkinabe Football Federation on Friday, 24th March 2017 by 7pm UK time telephoned the match organizers to say some of their players and officials were unable to secure entry visas into the United Kingdom and therefore would not be able to honour the match.

NFF President and CAF Executive Committee member, Amaju Pinnick was unhappy with the development but stated that the objectives of satisfying the technical team’s desire of squaring up against tough, physical African opposition and fostering team bonding and organization were achieved.

“The Technical Adviser (Gernot Rohr) wanted to play very physical African teams, as part of the preparations for the World Cup qualifying matches against Cameroon, and we duly fulfilled that with the arrangements we made for Senegal and Burkina Faso.

“Unfortunately, some of the Burkinabe players could not secure entry visas into the UK. It is nobody’s fault. Our joy is that we were able to play Senegal and got a fair result with a depleted squad, and also the objectives of team bonding, team building, team discipline and further imparting the Technical Adviser’s philosophy to the group have been well served.

“The Technical Adviser has also been able to look at a few more options, and our strength-in-depth is looking very good.”
