Ameh Henry, Team Manager of Nigeria National League, NNL side Kogi United has described his club's participation at the preseason soccer tournament tagged Gold Cup as a blessing which he said will help the team to do better in the coming season.
Henry said positives were drawn from the tournament as selected players were put to test to have a feel of the challenges ahead.
Kogi United competed in the Gold Cup along side seven other clubs which include Shooting Stars, Sharks FC and Supreme Court.
The Confluence state club were grouped in Pool A with Sharks FC, FC Ebedei and Kwara Football Academy, KFA where they ended second with six points.
The club played 1-1 with Shooting stars in the semi-final before losing out 3-5 on penalties.
Henry noted that the motive of participating at the tournament with level of opponents faced and players' performance which will assist when the league started just as commended the management for making funds available for the tournament.
"The Gold Cup actually helped us a lot, we saw what we needed from our boys, and we've gotten the area we need to work on, don't forget that we trained for a week before going for the this tournament, I thank the players, technical crew, Chairman of our club, Mallam Abdul Adama and Governor Wada for making funds available for the trip, so I think there a lot positives for us, one of which was that we didn't lose to any premier league sides which I think will boost our confidence," Henry said.
When asked about his confidence on the players to prosecute the club's campaign and the target for the season, the former Wikki and Lobi Stars player maintained that its a work in progress adding that club will work towards achieving greatness at the end of coming season.
"For the players' performance and the team, its still a work in progress, most of them played very well and others played below average but we shall see what will happen, I can't say much on that for now but anything is possible, our target for the season is still intact, we are on course for the new season, with God on our side we shall do better than last season," the Team Manager concluded.
Kogi United recorded 46 points last season to placed seventh in Group A.
