Sharks FC (Port Harcourt) are still first from the rare on the log, the Blue Angels came from a goal down to draw 1-1 against Heartland in match day 14 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday,June 28,2015.
There were lots of changes in the starting line up for Sharks as Steven Erewa returned to the back line to partner Gabriel Olalekan while Ibrahim Salawu also made the starting eleven. The game got underway as the visitors, Heartland FC got the first chance following a shot from Bright Ejike but it was too weak to trouble the Goal Keeper.
Ten minutes into the match. Fortune Omoniwari got an opportunity following a wonderful pass laid by Christian Pyagbara, but he was unable to compose himself enough as his shot was too poor to hit the back of the net. The first goal of the game came in the 15th minute, a wonderful cross from the left hand side found an un-marked Bright Ejike who coolly headed home to give Heartland the lead and increased his goal tally this term to eight.
The host, Sharks continued to mount pressure on the away side in search of an equaliser but the Naze Millionaires defence stood intact and cordinated as they found it difficult to break the deadlock. However, in the 38minute Christian Pyagbara dribbled past a Heartland defender and finds his teamate Ibrahim Salawu whose shot on goal was calmly saved by Goal Keeper David Obiazor as the visitors took a goal lead into the break.
Former Crown FC striker,Bode Daniel replaced Ibrahim Salawu as the second half started and he made an instant impact in the 49th minute as his shot hit the cross bar but the rebound was cleared off the line by Ebere Odichie. The home side continued to hold possession as Heartland seek to protect their lead, they sat deep in their own half to defend but the Sharks broke the deadlock in the 70th minute as a cross came through the flanks but the goalkeeper was unable to handle the ball in his box which fell nicely on the path of Fortune Omoniwari who tapped it into an open net to give his side a much needed breather.
Fortune Omonawari almost got a brace in the game as his powerful shot was saved by for a corner kick. Sharks were unable to get the winning goal as Heartland sat deep to defend till the blast of the final whistle which ensured that Sharks are yet to pick up maximum points after 11 matches in the league.
