The African Champions, Nigeria were grouped along side teams in the top ten FIFA ranking, Sweden-5th, USA-2nd, Australia-10th and that informed the reason why Group D was labelled the group of death.

Having admitted that she knows little or nothing about the Super Falcons, coach of Sweden, Pia Sundhage was astonished to see her team give up three goals to Nigeria who are ranked 33rd in the world.
"We’re not happy that we gave up three goals, however, at the end of the day we got one point and there’s good things to bring to the next game. The game plan was different than what you saw"
"Again, we got one point and next time, when we play the States, I hope we will follow the game plan," said Pia Sundhage
Falcons coach, Edwin Okon expressed joy after the match insisting that their opponent, Sweden were tipped to take all the point off Nigeria but he contended with draw.
"I feel OK after our first match. They (Sweden) were expected to win, and at the end of the day we got a draw. Prayer is important for the Nigerian team. We praise God, that's is very important,"Edwin Okon stated.
The Super Falcons will face Australia in their next matc on June 12, the Maltidas lost 3-1 to USA.
