It's still pretty much unclear as to who looks likely to qualify to play in the season ending Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) Super Four at this moment in time.
Adamawa Queens will on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017, renew their rivalry with Nasarawa Amazons at the Fufore Township Stadium in the Northern Derby.
But there are games to be played at midweek despite the Adamawa Vs Nasarawa expected thriller sapping all the attention from the other matches.
In an interesting matchup, Osun Babes will once again attempt to end it recent flirtations with the bottom three at the expense of visiting Delta Queens.
Confluence Queens will be in the hunt for a likely second straight win as guests of 7th placed Pelican Stars, who will look to dump the New Direction Queens for the three points.
Abia Angels started the season in fine form scoring a torrent of goals in some of their games but have failed to win any of their last two games – and losing grip at the top of the Group A standings – and will have to get all three points if they labour thoughts of playing in the Super Four this season. Sunshine Queens have largely blown hot and cold thus far and a win at the Akure Township Stadium will boost their confidence.
FC Robo Queens, who won their last match against Ibom Angels will be looking to do same when they square off away to Heartland Queens. The Owerri based side will will look to nick this one and bolster their chances of climbing up the log.
Heartland Queens Vs FC Robo Queens
At the Federal Polytechnic Pitch, Nekede, Heartland Queens will be in the hunt for just their second win of the season as they host third placed FC Robo Queens in a Group A affair.
The two teams are coming off contrasting results; a 2-0 loss for Heartland against Bayelsa Queens and a 3-2 win for Robo at home to Ibom Angels.
Sunshine Queens Vs Abia Angels
A battle between teams trying to rebound from defeats sustained in their last NWPL outings and also avoid a second straight loss, but it is the Owena Mermaids (Sunshine Queens) who are riding in the relegation zone.
The Owena Mermaids are still trying to turn the corner and they will look to send Abia Angels packing with the maximum points on their horizon.
Abia Angels with their pool of young talents are dangerous on their day and have what it takes to cause an upset in Akure.
A win looks likely for the under pressure Sunshine, especially if they can have the full compliments of their players but they can’t afford to sleep on a good Abia team that is capable of pulling a win on the road.
Bayelsa Queens Vs Ibom Angels
At the Nembe City Stadium, Bayelsa Queens will look to maintain the momentum, following last week's 2-0 win over Heartland at the expense of visiting poor road travelers Ibom Angels.
Second placed Restoration Girls have been solid on their home turf where they’ve picked up two wins, including one over Abia Angels and they will look to add Ibom to the list.
As for Ibom Angels, the burden of causing an upset lies on the shoulder of NWPL topscorer Charity Reuben, who has been in fantastic form since the commencement of the top flight campaign.
Adamawa Queens Vs Nasarawa Amazons
Adamawa Queens will renew their rivalry with Nasarawa Amazons in the Northern Derby at the Fufore Township Stadium.
The two sides will take to the field in good form; Adamawa Queens are having a much better than anticipated season, with two wins, two draws and a loss.
Nasarawa Amazons have so far lived up to expectation with their impressive performance. Four wins and one loss isn't a bad return for the Christopher Danjuma tutored side.
Those with ‘guns for mouths’ and strong ties to the two teams have spoken and are optimistic of victory for their side, but then that winner will be decided on the field.
For Adamawa, victory in Fufore will likely move them into second spot of the Group A table if other results goes their way. For the Amazons, victory will enable them pull away from the chasing park.
Osun Babes Vs Delta Queens
Oshogbo based Osun Babes desperately need to turn their season around following a string of poor results that has left them reeling and just two spots shy of the bottom and they will attempt to do just that as hosts of a Delta Queens side that is unbeaten in the five-week old season.
The Omoluabi Queens have won just once at home this term, a draw against Adamawa Queens coupled with a bunch of road losses have hurt them badly and they need to hit a winning rhythm before things get out of hand.
Delta Queens have given the road their best though they are yet to win. But they can take solace from the fact they are the only unbeaten team in Group B.
Pelican Stars Vs Confluence Queens
Surging Confluence Queens will have a shot at leapfrogging into the summit depending on how things go for Nasarawa as they battle with Pelican Stars.
Pelican Stars will be searching for a doable second win against their guests. However, their overall far from convincing form is a source of concern for their teeming fans.
Expect a thrilling game and perhaps a goal fest if the two teams come to the party.
Saadatu Amazon Vs Edo Queens
The home team have been a major disappointment so far. They are currently bottom on the Group B log with no point from a possible 15. Odds are against them after five losses at a stretch.
It will be a surprise if Edo Queens don't score against a team low in confidence, but perhaps Saadatu Amazons could also create a few chances and respond with at least one goal as well.
Edo Queens seem to have the advantage in this one, unless Saadatu have found a formula against losing at home where they have given up six points, the most by any team in the NWPL this season.
