Rivers United return to domestic competition on Saturday after their exertions in the Caf Confederation Cup.

They face Nasarawa United at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt knowing a win will see them go level on points with their guests on the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) classifications.

The Pride of Rivers have yet to hit expected heights in the NPFL this season but know that a handsome win over the Solid Miners who claimed bragging rights after a 1-0 victory in the reverse fixture, will take them to the top half of the table.

United have dropped points in three home fixtures this season (versus Lobi Stars, Kano Pillars and Plateau United) but it is their form on the road that has left so much to be desired.

Technical manager, Azunda Stanley Eguma knows things must improve on all fronts if the home faithful are to be pacified.

“It’s unfortunate (we are not getting decent results away from home) and we want to apologize to the fans.

“We need to sit up, do our best and ensure that we win this game against Nasarwa United at home,” he told our official website, www.riversunitedfc.com.ng

Nasarawa United arrive in Port Harcourt in boisterous mood with several reinforcements brought in to add more firepower to the squad.

Ocheme Edoh and Sibi Gwar are just two of such personnel and head coach of the Lafia club, Kabiru Dogo believes the duo will add a different dimension to his squad in the final third.

“The two players are experienced strikers and we believe they will help us in the area of our goal scoring.

“The objective is to have a perfect team,” he said.

Saturday’s game between the two sides is expected to be fiercely-fought and fine details will likely determine the encounter.
