  • Solanke On Target As Chelsea's U19 Lift UEFA Youth League

    Chelsea's U19s were crowned the champions of Europe after the young Blues recorded a 3-2 win over Shakhtar Donetsk U19 in the UEFA Youth League final in Switzerland as Dominic Solanke emerge tournament top scorer.

    An Izzy Brown's brace and another from Dominic Solanke who increased his goal tally to 12 in the competition gave the Londoners a deserved win over their Ukrainian counterparts.

    Dominic Solanke, born to a Nigerian father joined Chelsea from the U8 level and has shown promises of a future star, he has been capped by England at U-16 and U-17 levels but is still eligible to play for Nigeria at senior level.
    Izzy Brown who was on the Blues bench at QPR where Chelsea labored to lone goal victory gave the young Blues an early lead in Switzerland after only seven minutes when he turned home Solanke's left-wing cross from close range. Few minutes before the break an own goal was recorded, Deny Arendaruk of Shakhtar dropped a cross from the right but Andreas Christensen turned it into his own net.
    After the break, Dominic Solanke who was on 11 goals before the final increased it for Chelsea just two minutes after resumption. Izzy Brown made 3-1 for Chelsea before the hour mark when he picked a pass from Boga before he coolly finish off with his left-foot.
    Shakhtar reduced the tally late into the match when substitute Viktor Kovalenko pulled one back in injury time. 
    Two other players of Nigerian decent, Oal Aina played the entire duration while Fikayo Tomori sat in the bench
