36 Lion FC |
The Lagos Metro Pro League has been scheduled to kick off on the 19th of February 2014. An idea of private club owners who have decided to run a league in a more professional way.
Some of the clubs participating in the Metro Pro League have at one time or the other played in the Nigeria National league but pulled out mainly because the NNL isn't profitable enough.
The expectation is high and questions are been asked on how
profitable the Metro Pro League will be to clubs that will participate in it and how well it will entertain fans.
The CEO of Metro Pro League, Victor Akinyooye told Footyalert that the League has so much to offer.
"The Metro Pro League has so much to offer both clubs participating it the league and fans yearning for quality football," said Victor
Both 36 Lion FC and Bridge FC have featured in the NNL and they will play the opening match of the Metro Pro League. Bridge FC pulled out in the 212/2013 season while 36 Lion FC have had a feel of both groups in the NNL. In the 2011/2012 season The Badagry base team, 36 Lion FC moved to Lokoja to feature in NNL group A but that adventure didn't go down well as they were relegated to the lower league on the last day.
Bolowotan FC who recently announced their return to league football after they also pulled out of the NNL in their debut season. The Ikorodu base team honored 6 league matches in the 2012/2013 season, pulled out of the NNL due to financial reasons but they thought it wise to give their NNL slot to MFM FC for free. The "Oga Boys" will play against NATH Boys FC who are a regular feature in the Lagos Junior League.
AS Racine FC who feature in the amateur league will face a very strong team in Remo Stars. Before now, Remo Stars gave a good fight for promotion in the NNL but missed out on the last day. Apapa Golden Stars, a regular feature in the Lagos Federation Cup and Lagos Junior League host Union Bank FC who recently gained promotion to the NNL after an excellent season in the Nigeria Nationwide League, the bankers won't feature in the NNL as Stationery Stores of Lagos have taken over their slot. Collin Edwin SC and Yobo FC complete the last match for week one.
