Flamingos qualify for Costa Rica 2014, as South Sudan withdraws

The U-17 Women National Team, known as Flamingos, has been confirmed as one of Africa’s representatives at next year’s  FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals taking place in Costa Rica following the withdrawal of South Sudan from the qualifying race.

The Sudanese were to host the first leg of the qualifying fixture on the weekend of 1st – 3rd November, but threw in the towel, making 2012 quarter finalists Nigeria the first African team to reach the finals that will be staged in four Costa Rican cities.

“It’s good that our team has qualified early. The Nigeria Football Federation will ensure the team starts preparation early enough and very ready to do Nigeria proud,” stated NFF General Secretary,
    Barrister Musa Amadu.

The 2014 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals will be staged in San
    Jose, Alajuela, Liberia and Tibas.
