It was a breathtaking encounter at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu as Enyimba Int"l of Aba consolidate their position on the NPFL log as they defeated Enugu Rangers by 1-2 in a tensed atmosphere at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu.
The Flying Antelopes were unable to bury their chances in the game as their visitors took advantage of every opportunity that comes their way.
Rangers kicked off the encounter on a promissing note as striker Bobby Clement blew up two great opportunity in quick succession. The Enugu based side dominated proceedings in the first half, midfielder Godwin Aguda was able to dictate play in the midfield as Rangers looked for the first goal.
The defensive duo of Chinedu Udoji and Emmanuel Anyanwu were top notch on the day as they kept Rangers at bay before the blast of the first half whistle.
Second half hostilities got underway as Ifeanyi Aguda finds his way into the opponents half but lacked the cutting edge to score for his side. Enugu Rangers defender Kalu Orji handled the ball in his box in the 53rd minute as referee pointed to the spot.
The former Enugu Rangers striker Christian Obiozor steped up to convert from the spot to give Enyimba the lead in the 56th minute.
The Flying Antelopes surge forward for an equalizer as a wonderful cross came from the flanks and locates an un-marked Christian Madu whose header lacked power to trouble Femi Thomas in goal for Enyimba.
Ugwu Uwadiegwu almost doubled the lead in the 67th minute with a free kick from the left hand side but Goal Keeper Itodo Akor came to the rescue.
The breeakthrough for Rangers came in the 78 minute when Godwin Aguda converted from the spot following a reckless challenge by Emmanuel Anyanwu.
The Flying Antelopes were stunned in the 81st minute when former ABS FC !(Ilorin) player, Andrew Abalogu thumped up the ball into the net from an Ezekiel Bassey assist who dribbled past Rangers defenders to give the Peoples Elephant the second goal.
Enugu Rangers huff and puff in search of an equalizer but the visitors stood astute in defence till the blast of the final whistle as Enyimba cruise in to the summit of the league
