Enyimba Int"l FC of Aba went joint-top of the league table following an impressive win against Table Toppers Sunshine Stars of Akure in Match Day 18 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
It was a blistering performance by the People"s Elephant of Aba as they dominated proceedings in the game, tearing Sunshine Stars apart and looking ruthless in front of goal with the goals coming off the boots of Nzube Anaezemba, Ezekiel Bassey and an own goal by Stephen Eze to give Enyimba Int"l a resounding victory against Sunshine Stars.
The home side started the game on a positive note as Nzube Anaezemba laid a wonderful pass to Ifeanyi George in the 12 minute, who rounded the goal keeper in the 18 yard box but he was unable to hit the ball into the net as the chance went begging.
Few minutes later, Christian Obiozor"s goal bound header was cleared off the line by Stephen Eze to keep Enyimba at bay in the encounter.
The breakthrough for Enyimba came in the 36 minute as Stephen Eze of Sunshine Stars scored an own goal following a poor ball clearance in his own box as the home team took the lead.
Enyimba Int"l doubled the lead in the 42 minute thanks to a powerful shot by Nzube Anaezemba at the edge of the box which was deflected off the legs of Christian Obiozor to give the Aba giants a comfortable lead as they head into the half time break.
Second half got underway as Enyimba Int"l completed the rout in the 47 minute, Ezekiel Bassey took a solo run down the flanks to shot from close range as he gave his side the third goal.
The visitors were totally outplayed by their host as Ezekiel Bassey mesmirizes through the Sunshine Stars defence and he dribbles past three defenders in the process. Sunshine Stars goal keeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa pulled a superb save in the 57 minute courtesy of an Andrew Abalogu effort.
Enyimba Int"l missed lots of chances in the game as a chance fell to Ezekiel Bassey who ballons the ball over the bar in the 65 minute.
The Aba giants were in total control of the game as the Akure Gunners looked dejected and lacks the composure to surge forward.
Adigun Adebayo compounded more woes to his side as he got the marching order by the referee for a second bookable offence in the 75 minute for a reckless challenge on Ezekiel Bassey.
Tunde Adeniji got the consolation for his side from the spot in the 93 minute to increase his goal tally to nine.
