The First Lagos indigenous FIFA badged referee, Mr. Saheed Temidayo Ayeni, retired from active refereeing on December 21st, 2013 amongst laughter, joy and immense fulfilment.
This was made known at the ceremonial match organised for him between the
Ikorodu Referees Society and Selected stars in Ikorodu.
Mr. Saheed was full of smile and thanks as he put an end to his illustrious career.
He got the Badge as a FIFA Futsal referee in Nigeria in 2005 and also went on to officiate key games and competitions which includes the African championship in Libya 2008 and also the Thailand World Cup in 2012 to mention a few.
It must also be said that Mr. Saheed wasn't just restricted to Futsal but he expanded his horizon by officiating in the Nigeria Professional Football League for about 15-17years having 3 confederation cup finals to his name.
Mr. Saheed Ayeni was full of thanks to God for giving him the grace to not just have an illustrious career but also the strength to retire at the stipulated age. When asked about his advice for young referees, he urged them to be focused and to shy away from anything that can distract them.
