DSS Vs. Jigawa GS: Referee Confesses

A Nigeria National League week 10 match between Dynamic Sporting Solution Football Club (DSS) of Kaduna and Jigawa Golden Stars ended in a barren draw but out side of the pitch drama has revealed some astonishing details even after the refs involved in the match were beaten up

The NNL board has already set out some sanctions as regards the said match which includes a fine of 200 thousand Naira and the next three home games of DSS to be played behind closed doors.

However Footyalert spoke with the chairman of DSS FC, Mr Sunday Adeleye for the other side of the story.

DSS FC Chairman, Sunday Adeleye's account of what happened and the audio proof of where the ref confessed **couldn't be uploaded at this time.***

According to DSS chairman, Sunday Adeleye, the pre-match meeting of the match  (,DSS VS. Jigawa Golden Stars) was coordinated by the Kaduna State Football Association between the hours of 10.am and 12noon on a very peaceful atmosphere.

The officiating match officials are: Alh. AbdulGaniyu A. Ogunlade from Kano state (MC) Sunday Adelena from Niger State (CR) A.T. Shafii from Niger State (AR1) and Job Jacob (AR2) from Niger State. At the end of the pre-match meeting our supporters came with their grievances that the CR, AR1 and AR2 collected money from Jigawa Golden Stars FC to Favour the visiting team, we saw their grievances as an allegation since it was not yet confirmed, therefore we ignore it.

As agreed at the pre-match meeting venue by all stake holders, the reporting time for both teams and officials was 2.30pm; we carried the match officials back to the hotel after the pre-match meeting. By 1.30pm when we went back to the hotel to carry them to the stadium for the match proper scheduled to kick off by 4.pm. To our surprise the CR, AR1 and AR2 all from Niger State said they will be going back immediately after the match while the match commissioner from Kano State said he will wait and observe the second night accommodation.

We queried the decision of the CR, AR1 and AR2 considering the fact that they came from far place not minding the risk of armed robbery or road accident when the match comm from neighboring Kano State said he will sleep in the hotel till the second day (morning). At this point we began to suspect foul play.

The match commenced at 4.pm and the officiating was filled with a lot of questionable calls as the CR (Sunday Adelana) denied us several chances and some penalties in the encounter which our supporters and spectators that watched the match were against the way and manner the CR handled the match, the match comm also warned the CR when he saw the way he took side with away team.

The bias officiating of the match officials led to the breakdown of the law and order in the stadium, and after the match we conveyed the match officials back to the hotel because no matter what happened in the field of play their safety is our priority. When we reached the hotel in the course of our investigation we saw the handset of CR where the Team Manager of Jigawa Golden stars Alh. Dodo sent a text message to him that he should come and check him at Hamdala Hotel and in the same room we saw the money given to the CR N95, 000.00 (ninety five thousand naira). The Team Manager of Jiawa Golden Stars FC and we recovered another N30,000.00 (thirty thousand naira) from AR2 – Job Jacob.
While interrogating the CR, AR1 and AR2, the AR2 Job Jacob made a confessional statement recorded by the chairman of DSS FC (Sunday Omotayo Adeleye) that Jigawa Golden Stars gave them money and they gave him his own share N50, 000.00 (fifty thousand naira only), he confessed that the money passed through the CR – Sunday Adelana and they were promised some amount of money as their balance after the match. The AR1 – Shefi A.T. said he was given N30, 000.00 (thirty thousand naira) from the money with the promise that he will collect his balance of N30, 000.00 (thirty thousand naira) after the match.

We reported the matter at the Barnawa Police Station Kaduna South and present all the exhibit found with the CR, AR1 and AR2 with police authority. At the police Station they asked them to write their individual statement concerning the incident while they assigned 2(two) police officers to follow the chairman of DSS FC to Hamdala Hotel to follow the case with the principal actor who gave them the money, Alh. Dodo, the Team Manager of Jigawa Golden Stars.

On getting to Hamdala Hotel the police officer saw Alh. Dodo and presnt themselves as the CR – Sunday Adelana's friend, they were in hamdala Hotel to collect the money for the CR, Alh. Dodo gave the police officers N160, 000.00 (one hundred and sixty thousand naira) to give the CR, the police officers then formally introduced themselves and told Alh. Dodo he was under arrest and Alh. Dodo resisted the arrest  and ran away from the place, the police officers came back to their station with the chairman of DSS FC  and present the N160,000.00 (one hundred and sixty thousand naira) to their DPO as another exhibit.

On Monday 14th April 2014 around 10.am, the Kaduna State Referee Council sent their representatives to the police station to ask for the release of the suspects which the police authority called the chairman of DSS FC to inform him. The Chairman of DSS FC, the Secretary of Kaduna State Football Association and the match Commissioner along with the representatives of Kaduna State Referee council to release the CR, AR1 and AR2 on condition that the whole matter will be settled by the league body Nigeria National League (NNL) according to the laid down rules and regulations.

The Sunday Adelana is not clean at all. He officiated a match in Abuja last year and messed up the virtue of referees. The police should help in this investigation.

This kind of things happens every week in Nigeria football league. It is these administrators that still give this referees PR.

The club can not take the law into their hands, if they are unhappy with the officiating, they should follow appropriate channels to complaint. It's incidents like this that's making Nigerian football a laughing stock outside the country.
