2013 Lagos FA Cup Champions: COD United FC |
The Lagos FA Cup has gotten to the round of 16 where just eight teams are expected to make it to the quarter finals. The only major upset before now in the 2014 Lagos FA Cup was recorded in the match between Bolowotan FC and Christ Ambassadors FC, Bolowotan lost by 0:2.
The round of 16 might record one or two upset, considering the performance of some big teams in this year's competition.
Teslim Thunder Balogun FC Vs. Bridge FC
Both teams met at this stage last season, played out a 1:1 draw but TTB FC lost on penalties.
After enduring a very difficult match against Al-Amin FC in their first match, TTB FC have only one thing at the back of their mind "Revenge". Bridge FC do have the bragging rights over TTB FC but the Ikorodu base team who will be featuring in the Nigeria Natiowide League (division 3) this season will hope to get over Bridge FC when both teams meet on Friday,18th of April 2014.
Verdict: TTB FC 2:2 Bridge FC
Penalties to decide.
FAME FC Vs. Ambek FC.
Though Fame FC are a non league side but teams like COD United who are the current Lagos FA Cup champions and 3SC of Ibadan won't forget easily what Fame FC did to them In 2012. Fame FC were the reason COD United didn't go past the semi final stage of Lagos FA Cup in 2012 same as 3SC of Ibadan who they defeated 2:1 in the Federations Cup (nationals)round of 64.
Fame FC started their FA Cup campaign this term with a 3:0 victory against Annioted Stars FC but the score line didn't reflect the actual performance of the team. The Blue jersey guys, Fame FC struggled in their first match, they were more comfortable with long balls but found it so difficult to string three passes together.
Ambek FC are also a non league side but they have scored 5 goals in this competition and walked over Union Bank FC in the round of 32. A team that has some young and amazing talents who are so comfortable in keeping the ball, using the wings effectively and creating chances with ease.
*Verdict: Ambek fc 4:0 Fame FC
MFM FC Vs. Samvic FC
Samvic FC are a non league said enjoying every bit of fun the Lagos FA Cup has to offer. The non league side were not seeded so they featured in the first round tagged "The Rookie Match". After conceding an early goal in their very first match in 2014 edition, Samvic came from behind to score 4 goals to end the match against Kush FC 4:1. In the round of 32, Samvic got a slim lone goal victory over Super Gold FC.
To pair MFM FC against Samvic looks more like a free stroll for MFM who feature in the Nigeria National League but considering MFM performance so far in the FA Cup, it looks like the Olukoya Boys will have to roll up their sleeves.
The 2013 finalist, MFM FC started the 2014 edition in the round of 32 and played a one all draw against Divine Praise FC who paraded a more matured and experienced side but won on penalties (4:0). Against a bunch of rookies ( Samvic) who have very adventurous strikers, MFM will have to step up.
Verdict: Samvic 1:3 MFM
