Mercy Akide-Udoh's Play2Learn screening opened on Monday at Campos Square in Lagos, and the former African Footballer of the Year says she is excited by some of the talents on show.
"I have always known we have talent in this country, and I was not disappointed," said Akide-Udoh after the first day of tryouts. "I am excited by what I have seen on this first day, and by Tuesday, I hope to see even more people coming in to register and participate."

Assisted by former Super Falcons teammates Ann Cheijine and Okunwa Igunbor, Akide-Udoh took participants in technical drills, before they played a full game and were then given a short mentoring lecture.

A total of 10 scholarship places are up to be earned in the project. Seyi Akinwumi, Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, was pleased by what he saw

"I'm very happy to be here and to see this happen in Lagos State. It ties in with our Eko Football vision of developing football from the bottom up, and we are happy to support this initiative in any way we can," Akinwumi said.
The tryouts continue on Tuesday at the same venue, when the successful candidates will be named.
