    AkwaArchibong's Goal Good Enough

Utibe Archibong converted a penalty as Akwa Starlets Football Club laboured to a 1-0 win over Osun United Football Club in one of the Week 16 contest of the Bet9ja Nigeria National League.

Archibong 's goal came in the 28th minute after he calmly put his shot into the right corner of the net as United goalkeeper Ayo Ojo went the opposite direction.

The early exchanges of the contest was well dominated by Osun United but, the home side failed to convert few chances that came their way.

The Omoluabi Giants left-back, Ikenna Ibezim was set up by Victor Okeji but his effort was struck side net in the 20th minute of the encounter.

Respite came the way of the host in the 28th minute when Omeonu Charles, the centre referee from Abia State, awarded a penalty to Starlets and Archibong made no mistake to put his side upfront from the spot.

Osun United swung into actions moments later with their captain Olalere Hakeem combining beautifully with Dare Olatunji who in turn set up unrushing Tosin Omoyele only for assistant referee to flag him offside.

Gerald Akakim would have done further damage in the closing stages of first stanza, when he skipped past the duo of Bisi Olagunju and Emmanuel Osigwe, but Ayo Ojo, made a brilliant save.

On resumption, good defensive organisation from Starlets gave room for limited scoring opportunities as Osun United were on rampage in an attempt to restore parity.

A glorious chance beckons Osun United as Olalere directed a flick towards Okeji who fired straight into Starlets goalkeeper Godiah El-kanah, hand from acute angle but couldn't claw the shot as he managed to tip into corner.

A quick and successive resultant corner kick by Olalere saw Adeyemi Adeyeye, rose above everyone in the opponent's dangerous area, only to direct his timely header towards the keeper.

In the 62nd minute Osun United box-to-box midfielder Dare Olatunji, was sent off for second bookable offence.

It was a tension soaked half as momentum swings into the side of Osun United who were seen firing upward even with a man down but the host held on till the end with maximum points in their kitty.

Osun United will welcome AS Racines Football Club on Saturday at the Oshogbo Township Stadium in a must win contest as the curtains finally draw for the first stanza of the league.
