Upset is the name of the game when it comes to the Federation Cup where lower ranked teams or simply put 'smaller teams' who have a big heart shine.
The day two of the 2014 Federation Cup round of 64 knock out stage didn't go down without recording such upset. Nigeria Nationwide League campaigner, Dynamite FC of Benin didn't show any level of
respect to Ranchers Bees of Kaduna who feature in the Nigeria National League when both teams met at the Confluence stadium in Lokoja, Kogi state. The boys from Benin won 4-0, that same venue in Lokoja produced another upset in the second match between NNL side, Gateway United and Nigeria Premier League defending champions, Kano Pillars.
Before the match, Gateway secretary Niyi Soleye told BFC that his team will go into the match as underdogs but he is optimistic that the Rock City Boys will pull a surprised result, that happened as Gateway United defeated Kano Pillars by 2-1.
Though non league side, Bright FC lost to NPL side, Crown FC but a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes stretched the match to penalties and that caused a beat of scare for Crown. Insurance of Benin also came out victorious against NPL side,Sunshine Stars.
Another big winner, FC Abuja who couldn't survive the relegation battle in the NNL last season leaving them to campaign in the third tier level of league football in Nigeria no doubt hit the headline after they defeated Premier League Sid, Akwa United 2-1.
