    Critical stakeholders from Lagos State Government and former Super Eagles stars have rallied their endorsement behind the MTN Lagos Street Soccer as Season as it 7 kicks off.

    The stakeholders, who spoke at the press conference to mark the kick-off of the season, were unanimous in their commendations for the role MTN has been playing in the development of grassroots football through talent discovery.

    Speaking at the conference the representative of the
    Lagos State Government, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Sports, Lagos State, Oluseyi Whenu, said that the quality and success of the championship speak volume about MTN’s commitment to making people’s lives better.

    "There is no doubt that since 2008, when this championship started, it has been growing in bounds, value and prospects. It has created a formidable platform where Nigeria’s football development can be taken to the next level. I think MTN deserves unreserved commendations for its unwavering partnership and sponsorship season after season. On behalf of the State Government, I thank MTN”, he declared.

    In the same vein, the Chairman, Lagos Island East Local Development Area, Kamal Salau-Bashua stated that with the Lagos Street Soccer initiative, MTN has engaged a lot of young Nigerians in a positive way while showcasing their talent on a global stage. “We must give kudos to MTN for throwing its weight behind this championship from the onset. The company has indeed given us every reason to gather here today, to start a new season of MTN Lagos Street soccer. Every Lagosian and lover of the round leather game truly appreciates MTN’s continued support for the development of grassroots football”, he said.

    Former Super Eagle’s captain, Peter Rufai, was quick to acknowledge that the future of Nigeria’s football lies in talent discovery. This is for him is the only way the country can achieve its full potentials not just in the success of the individual footballers but for the country as whole through winning of major trophies both in Africa and on the global stage.
    Meanwhile, Senior Manager, Segment Management, MTN, Saidat Lawal-Mohammed who spoke on behalf of the leading ICT Company at the event, has said that one of the cardinal objectives of the company is to make life better for its teeming consumers. “The products of MTN Lagos Street Soccer since its inception, seven years ago, are the testimonies to the success of the championship. The initiative has produced football players who are doing well in their respective clubs, as well as young coaches and football administrators who passed through the seminars and trainings that go with the championship. MTN would continue to
     give value to people in ways that would make them better in whatever they do”, she assured.
    MTN Lagos Street Soccer is an initiative of Lagos State, supported by MTN. The championship, which is in three categories, Male, Female and Under 15, currently in its seventh season, has become a household name. Aside the international training tours, winners also received cash prizes and MTN-branded football kits.
