One thing is obvious in Nigeria League, IT'S NOT PROFITABLE.
It's not that the football leagues in Nigeria can't be run as a business venture, it's not that the league can't create job opportunities, fun and attract investors in all ramification, those managing the league
have chosen to do things the usual way (Naija way). A situation where government funding has left some administrators empty upstairs & with no creative thought.
In the 2012/2013 season of Nigeria National League a club (Bridge FC) pulled out at the start of the season, two clubs (Bolowotan FC & Divine Warriors) bow out in the first stanza while two clubs (Apa Utd & Zamfara Udt) have just bow out with less than seven matches to end of the season.
Typical of most Nigerians, the government will take the blame. "Why did the goverment not do this or that " that's what a lot of people will say.
Though very few clubs (less than four clubs #my opinion) seem to be professional in their activities but most of the football clubs in Nigeria run with no proper structure. Leaving them at the mercy of philanthropist.
Can you explain why a big club like heartland FC of Owerri gave their opponent from Gabon an easy ride just because there wasn't a proper travel arrangement.
All these clubs ( Government or private owned) have given the same reason for pulling out " No Money".
The Nigeria National League board haven't been able to get sponsors for the league and no league match is aired live.
Zamfara Utd of Gusau in group A have been confirmed relegated by the NNL with all points cancelled while debutant, Apa Utd of Otukpo Benue state in group B have activated article 4.2(7) of the 2012/2013 Nigeria National League rules and regulation which states that " If a club fails to honour two matches, such a club shall automatically be relegated to the next lower division unless thereis a force majeure acceptable to the league".
Now five teams (Bridge FC,Bolowotan FC, Divine Warriors, Apa Utd & Zamfara Utd ) have pulled out of the league.
The likes of Crown FC and Adamawa Utd were relegated last season but both teams secured slots from FC Ebedie and Makwada Utd respectively to feature in the NNL this season.
