Atlanta 1996 Gold medalist, Dosu Joseph (MON) has expressed satisfaction with the level of play between Kano Pillars and Giwa FC in the Gold Cup Pre-Season championshipin Ijebu-Ode.
The Sai Masu Gida team defeated Giwa FC by a lone goal at the weekend to qualify to the semi-finals with 6points.
"It's a pre-season game, as the coaches want to have a first assessment of the old and new players playing as a team. I felt Giwa started very well against Kano Pillars, but in the second half, they fizzled out and their opponents took the game to them and scored the only goal of the game."
“We all enjoyed the game, as both teams played good football. I gave kudos to the organizers as they have been doing very well as this should be the third edition of the pre-season tournament."
“They brought some clubs that are favourites to win the 2015/16 Nigeria Premier League (NPL) title Kano Pillars, Lobi Stars and Giwa FC. I think they should try and also bring the likes of Enyimba, Heartland, Rangers, IfeanyiUbah FC or Dolphins to the next edition.
"The tournament is not about making it to the finals rather it’s about having a team that kick-off a better campaign either in the NPL, NNL or Nationwide League One but for the likes of FC Ebedei, Imperial FC and other lower division teams its good exposure for the players who played against the Nigeria Premier League big names like Gambo Mohammed, Olorunleke Ojos etc.
“I mean, when I heard the 2-0 result of Pillars versus FC Ebedei, it was really a decent scoreline as I was expecting a whitewash,” said Dosu.
