  • Pillars beat Ebedei in Gold Cup opener

    Omo Johnson and Sodiq Yusuf scored the two goals to make sure Kano Pillars beat FC Ebedei in the opening game of the Gold Cup Pre-Season at the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu Ode.


    Johnson scored the first goal with a powerful strike in the 44th minute, and Sodiq made it two nil via goal-mouth scramble.

    FC Ebedei tried to fight back to level matters but failed to break the Pillars defense. The Oliseh Boys team attacked in number but still failed to break the battle hardened Pillars team. 


    “We created many chances but failed to convert them. We now need to fight in our second game to win,” said FC Ebedei coach, Tunde Oladeinde, after the game.


    Pillars gaffer, Mohammed Babaganaru said he was happy with the performance of his team. 

    “We need to continue to win our matches. It is the only way we shall get to the later stages of the tournament. FC Ebedei gave us a tough game and the young boys will go places,” added the Pillars coach.


    In the second match, Imperial FC came from behind to defeat Remo Stars 2-1.

    Friday's game will feature Giwa FC of Jos against Supreme Court of Abuja, Lobi Stars of Makurdi will trade tackle Crown FC of Ogbomosho, while COD United of Lagos will battle Remo Stars.
