The 2013/2014 Season of the Lagos Junior League came to a climax with Surulere Sport City FC sealing the Premier League title with a hard fought 2-0 victory over Onigbongbo Ultimate Strikers at the Epe stadium on Sunday evening.
Despite Y.M.D. Babes of OJO winning their
final match 3-0 against whipping boys Apapa Iganmu their chances of securing a title victory relied solely on Onigbongbo Fc causing an upset in their match against the boys from Surulere. Onigbongbo FC wasn’t up to the task and restricted OJO to a second place finish. The OJO team will rue missing the title but will be delighted with their consistency after finishing second two seasons in a row.
Ifako Ijaiye FKJ United sneaked into third place on the final day at the expense of Apapa Golden stars who failed to pick a point against relegation bound Ayayo Fc of Imota. Apapa Golden Stars have now finished fourth place two seasons in a row and both times have slipped close to the finish line.
Agege Giants took advantage of Onigbongbo FC’s loss to hold on to fifth place. The Agege team will be pleased with their 2013/14 season coming fifth in their first season in the premier division of the LJL.
In League 1 final round of matches, Orile Agege sealed the 2013/2014 League 1 Title with a 3-0 victory over Ikorodu Central. Ibeju Lekki edged out Egbe Idimu to second place on goal aggregate while Lekki FC and Bariga FC completed the top five teams in League 1.
