With high expectation to see Friday night football in the  Nigeria Premier League which didn't happen because two private owned clubs (Nembe City & Giwa FC)  were thrown out of the premier league because they didn't meet the minimum standard set by the League Management Company (LMC).

Attention shifted to the clubs playing on the continent, the Nigeria Premier League 2013/2014 opener and in the Nigeria National League.

After recording a barren draw score line away to
FC Konzo in Congo expectations are that Bayelsa United will do enough to get the needed result and the Restoration Boys did well with a 2:0 victory over FC Konzo to move to the next stage of the CAF Confederations Cup. Still on Saturday, Enyimba took on AS Real Bamako in Mali after the home team had pick a 1-2 away win in Aba. Though the People's Elephant won by a lone goal in Mali but that wasn't good enough to see them through as they were shown the exit door via away rule.

Debutant Abia Warriors started their Premier League campaign with a 2-1 win over Kaduna United while another Premier League debutant,FC Taraba also won by a lone goal in Jalingo.

On Sunday Warri Wolves completed a clean sweep of Nigerian clubs playing in the CAF Confederations Cup, after a commendable 2-3 win against Union De Douala in Cameroon in the first leg, in the second leg the Seasiders settled for a 1-1 draw in Warri to move on to the next round.
