Football/Soccer is regarded as the number one sport in the world, considering these factors and many more - viewership on TV, TV rights deals, number of countries the sport is popular in; it's estimated that 3.5 Billion people are passionately attracted to the sport across Europe, Africa, Asia and America which tantamount to a high demand of football content daily.

To those who'd like to leverage on this opportunity, let's take a look at important steps aspiring football content providers must take to generate and provide football content to the ever demanding global audience who want to know what's going on in the world of football.

Footyalert chat to an expert, Rob Delport (@FMSouthAfrica ) a South African who is a professional in the sports and entertainment industries for decades. He returned to his early love, football and he has involved himself in the local soccer scene as a writer, researcher, scout, filmmaker and editor doing his utmost to promote the beautiful game.

Rob Delport though said that he's still learning but he has shared an insight to important steps aspiring football content providers must focus on:

    1- SPECIALIZE

Thousands of writers out there are able to generalize with regards to football so find your niche or corner of the market. Be it your local league, or even local team, find an area that allows you to show what unique news you can bring to the party. Some of the best writers I know started focusing on lower leagues or youth football as a doorway into the industry- it may not bring in money immediately but it allows you to grow and begin to make contacts and build a profile.

    2- NETWORK

Make every contact and connection count. Don't burn bridges. Your intern today may be your boss tomorrow. Meet fellow journalists, meet coaches, players, interact and leave an impression - not every meeting is a story either. Perhaps an unemployed coach will talk to you more about football in general. Learn from them, and who knows perhaps that coach gets a big job one day! With youth football it's sometimes like a long term investment. The 14 yr old kid you follow today may be a superstar in a decade and he will never forget those who showed interest when he was a nobody...

    3-WORK

Don't sit around and wait for opportunities. Write for yourself, create a profile, and take every job you can. Money is obviously important but from experience I can tell you that those who work harder, often get paid more in the end.

    4- RESEARCH

The best know-it-alls know never to speak about things they don't know about it but only what they do. And if you don't know about something, don't improvise, research! Listen to those around you, listen to stories, and then go out and learn more.

    5-TECHNOLOGY

Use it as much as you can. Social networks, etc. Use it to build bridges, not burn them. Don't attack people's opinions, discuss them, interact. Too many trolls already out there...

    6-LOVE

Love what you do and what you cover. Like all relationships there will be ups and downs but if you give your all, hopefully the rewards are worth it in the end...

    7- And finally IMPROVE

Don't stagnate. Learn from your errors. Try always make the work you do on a Friday 5 days better than the work you did on the Monday before. Don't stagnate. Keep learning from your peers too. Work on your weaknesses.

.. a bit philosophical but it's such a big market - but I think this sort of advice can work with most people...

The only other advice is 'ride your luck' but remember hard work usually works with it. But you need a little luck always
