Osun United coach, Duke Udi has revealed the secret to the Omoluabi Gaint current form. The former Nigeria international has stated that he shares technical and true life experiences with his team and that has motivated them to give their best at all times.
"You know that while I was playing they used to say I am a very stubborn player so now I do tell these players that life after football is terrible if you don't plan well,” Duke Udi told Footyalert
“How you plan well is to be discipline, work hard, seek greener pastures and make your family proud.”
“I talk a lot to these young lads in training like a father, a brother or like a friend. Listen, let me tell you the truth, with all due respect to Nigerian football, you really can't make so much playing in Nigeria.”
“You can't fall back at what you make in Nigeria so you've got to move abroad to make more for your family because life after football can be terrible. So when these lads see that you sincerely want them to grow and become the best in their career they'll give the best at all times.”
Osun United currently sit fourth in the Nigeria National League (NNL) Southern Conference table and Udi says he takes each match as it comes while he works on meeting his target to secure a promotion ticket.
“We are just building a new team and just three old players started in the match against Nnewi United which we won by 2-0. When you are building a new team, one need to keep fighting because these are young lads who came from smaller clubs or relatively unknown teams.
“We needed to instill confidence in them so that they can believe in themselves and deliver the goods. They've playing so well both home and away but it's unfortunate that we haven't been converting our chances, if not for that may be we would have won all our matches.”
“But all in all, we need to praise the guys because they've done well. We shall continue to work hard and hopefully we shall get to where we want to get to.”
“For now I don't look at the position on the league table because it's a marathon. I look at the end result which is very important. Our sole target this season is to gain promotion so we at Osun United take it a match at a time.”
