Foremost journalist and Member, NFF Technical and Development Committee, Etubom Paul Bassey has been saddled with two mega assignments by both world football-governing body FIFA and the
Confederation of African Football (CAF), this month.
In what aptly underscores Bassey’s growing profile in the global game, the world body has appointed the self-effacing Nigerian as Match Commissioner for the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying match between Algeria and Burkina Faso taking place at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium,
Blida on Tuesday, 19th November, 2013.
The tie is delicately poised after Burkina Faso’s Etalons, vice champions of Africa, edged the first leg 3-2 in Ouagadougou on 12th October. The referee assessor for that game is Lim Kee Chong, the
respected former FIFA referee from Mauritius.
Etubom Bassey has been appointed by CAF as the General Coordinator for the return leg of the final of the 10th CAF Confederation Cup, between host TP Mazembe of Democratic Republic of Congo and Club Sportive Sfaxien of Tunisia, taking place at the Stade TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi
on 30th November, 2013.
Renowned South African referee Daniel Bennett will take charge of that match, with Senegalese Badara Sene as referee assessor and Colonel Sita Sangare from Burkina Faso as match commissioner.
The first leg takes place in Tunisia a week earlier.
