Akwa United made a winning return to the Uyo township stadium with a 3-2 victory over Gombe United. Mfon Udoh scored twice for the Uyo based side with South African bound Ubong Ekpai made it three. Gombe United pulled off a late drama scoring two late goals to reduce the deficit.

It was a blistering evening of fun at the ballistic stadium as the team made a rousing return following the NFF's O&D committee's decision earlier in the week.
The Uyo side was banished from the stadium following the inconclusive game with Warri Wolves.

Mfon Udoh lashed unto Ubon Ekpai's deflected cross to slot home the lead in the 13th minute. Orlando Pirates invitee Ubong Ekpai capped his last game at the Uyo stadium with a superlative volley 15 yards away in the 75th minutes after Mfon had doubled the advantage.

The visitors pulled a late show, scoring twice and pressing for an equalizer. A delightful volley by Ismali was the icing on the cake, the winger almost made it count no thanks to Nnamso Edo's brilliance.

In a press briefing held later, Akwa United's media office Mr. Uwem Ekoh said the team is determined to avoid the drop at the end of the season. "We are excited with the result and we are positive of escaping relegation by the end of the season"

On the security challenge at the Uyo stadium. The chairman of the state FA and head NFF's Security committee Mr Effiong Johnson assured that discipline will be ensured across board during Akwa United's home games. "As you can see Security has improved, the state FA and official met and we made proper arrangement to recruit some private security operatives to ensure stability during games".

The club also confirmed that striker Ubong Ekpai will be heading for Orlando pirates this weekend. On the transfer of  Hamza Onwuamaegbu to Rangers, the club's secretary Mr. Joseph Eberefe said the defender has not been cleared to join the Enugu based side.
