The Nigeria National League (NNL) have announced a new resumption date for the league and reasons why such decisions were taken.
Clubs participating in the second level football league in Nigeria, NNL will have to wait a little longer as the league organisers have stated that a new date in September has been slated for the commencement of the league.
In a letter made available to Footyalert but addressed to chairmen of participating clubs and duly signed by the secretary of the NNL, Lawrence Katken; the postponement is necessitated by pending cases before the Appeals Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the indebtedness of clubs to the league.
The letter reads: "This is to inform all the State Football Associations and Nigeria National League clubs that the Nigeria National League earlier scheduled to commence 3rd August, 2016 will no long commence as earlier scheduled.
This is as a result of:
1. To allow the cases before the Appeals Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation to decide on the appeal cases in order to put all clubs at par before the commencement of the remaining three weeks.
2. The lingering indebtedness of clubs to the league. The league uses this medium once again to appeal to clubs concern to enable them settle all outstanding debts.
However a new date of 10th September, 2016 is slated for the commencement of the three remaining weeks of the 2015/16 Nigeria National League season.
