Victor Ezeji is a legend in his own right and he might not be in the league of legends like Nwankwo Kanu,Jay Jay Okocha,Sunday Oliseh etc but he is a legend in his own right.

He has played his part in the Nigeria Professional Foootball League (NPFL) as the League Management Company (LMC) is set to organise a testimonial on his behalf in December to celebrate a career that has spanned two decades and numerous laurels.

It's only right that he should be celebrated. Victor Ezeji is a man known by fans who follow the Nigerian League- he has played for 6 teams in the apex league, most notably Eagle Cement, Enyimba, Sunshine Stars,  Heartland, Dolphins FC and Sharks (both are now defunct after they were merged into Rivers United and he had 3 stints as a player in Sharks) although he had a brief sojourn in Tunisia at Club Africain but it was in Nigeria he made his mark as he remains the only player who has played in 20 successive league seasons in Nigeria.

That in itself is legendary and it's a rare feat in any part of the world, only a few players like Totti, Giggs, Buffon etc and just a handful of them have a cabinet filled with trophies. He is among the set of players who has won the CAF Champions League with Enyimba - the most successful club in Nigeria.

He is also the first player to wear the armband for Dolphins FC and Sharks which is no mean feat at all. As a striker who had an eye for goal he was a terror to Nigerian Premier league defence line and he also made history as the first player to score 4 goals in a league match while he was at Sharks FC.

He's also the first player to win the FA Cup with Dolphins FC and also to be the highest goalscorer in that same competition and the crowning moment of it all was when he became the first player to win the MVP award in both the FA Cup and the League which is a very big achievement.

Sadly the only thing missing is national team duty as he only had 3 caps for Nigeria which were all friendlies but that in no way dampens his legendary status.

This honour comes at a very important time when legends most times are not honoured in our country until they are dead but with the LMC honouring Victor Ezeji with a testimonial game and also being an NPFL ambassador remains a more deserving.

It is our hope that this will trigger more initiatives to have other living legends in Nigeria to be celebrated #LegendEzeji.
