Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Executive Board Member, Ahmed Yusuf Fresh, has donated a trophy for the team that would emerge as the Gold Cup Pre-Season tourney runners-up.
The Minna born astute football administrator disclosed to the General Coordinator of the tourney, Tunde Shamsudeen of his plan recently.
"I have been following the Gold Cup tournament, I say to you the organizers that season after season, that you have been doing a wonderful job.”
"Not only as journalist who cover the leagues, but providing a platform where teams in the various leagues in the country can come and test their players with the goal of knowing their strengths and weaknesses before the new season kicks off is commendable.”
"I know there's a trophy and cash prize for the winner courtesy of Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, but in my own little way, I'm donating a trophy that will be presented to the second best team," said Fresh.
A delighted Shamsudeen thanked the Niger State FA boss, for identifying with the tournament, that the trophy would bring about stiffer competition amongst the participating teams, knowing that something is at stake to be won.
"I want to specially thank Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf Fresh, for his kind gesture and I believe this runners-up trophy will go a long way in making the competition more glamorous than it used to be,'' Shamsudeen said.
Meanwhile, Barrister Tunji Brown, the C.E.O of Nigeria leading sportswear manufacturer OWU Sportswear Ventures has assured that his firm will kit the two finalists and promised to always contribute his quota to the development of the tournament and Nigeria football.
The tournament will be staged at the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, between Friday November 26 through Saturday December 4, 2016, with Kano Pillars, Lobi Stars, Niger Tornadoes, Crown FC, Remo Stars, MFM, Supreme Court among the participating teams.
Kano Pillars won the last edition having defeated Supreme Court 2-1 in the finals.
