Chairman Kano Pillars Football Club, Tukur Babangida, has told the organizers of the Gold Cup Pre-Season Tournament that he had to shun a propose Ghana tour for his team to battle Enyimba, Lobi, Niger Tornadoes others.
Recall the Maisu Gida team were crowned winners of the Season 3 edition after they defeated Supreme Court of Abuja 2-1 in the finals.
Speaking to Gold Cup Media Team on Sunday in Lagos, "The tourney is good for all the participating teams as it would help them prepare better for the up coming Nigeria Professional Football League season in December.”
"For us at Pillars, we want to use the tourney to know the strength and weakness of the squad, and if I must ask, do we really have a team? It was laughable that a team like Pillars could not win the league or finish second last season.”
"Just like I did when we won our first NPL title, then we went on a tour of Niger Republic, We could have done the same as some Ghanaian teams sent us an invitation to come take part in a pre-season tourney.”
"So our target is not to retain the Gold Cup trophy we won last season but to provide a true test for our players."
The prestigious Gold Cup tourney is scheduled for November 25 - December 4, 2016.
