    Spartans, MFM Set For 2016/17 Nationwide League Opener


    Agege township stadium will be agoged with sublime football at the grassroot when Spartans FC of Agege trade tackles against Mountain of Fire and Miracles Feeder team in the opening game of the Nationwide League One (NLO) on Wednesday, 10 May, 2017.

    Mohammed Alkali, the Independent Chairman of the NLO  disclosed this to the sporting press in Abuja after the fixtures for the 2016/17 season were made known  to the public , as he stressed that the League body has perfected plans to ensure a crisis free season at the cradle of football in Nigeria, insisting that all the clubs have been communicated to abide to the rules sand regulations guiding the league this season.

    “ I am glad to inform you that we have made all the necessary plans to start the league in May and the star match is between Spartans FC and MFM Feeders team at the Agege township stadium and hopefully football fans will witness great football atmosphere during the course of the season. We hope to improve more on the quality of football at the grassroot in this year’s  league everything is working out fine” Alkali said.

    Alkali also said that the League body had to shift the kick off date of the league to Wednesday,  10 May, 2017 because of the involvement of some Nationwide league clubs in the States F.A. Cup competitions. The kick off date was earlier fixed for Friday, 5 May, 2017.

    " We have shifted the kick off date of the league to Wednesday, 10 May, 2017 to enable some of our Nationwide league teams that are at the crucial stage of the States F.A. competitions concentrate fully at the competition which will end on the first weekend of May" Alkali added.

    Meanwhile , Shola Ogunnowo, the Chief Operating Officer of the NLO has said that clubs that are yet to register or yet to finish their registration for this season must complete their registration exercise this Friday to ensure that they are ready to compete in the NLO this season, noting further that enough time was given to these clubs to complete their registration for the season and any club that fails to meet the deadline is to its own peril.

    “There is no going back on the deadline given to the clubs to complete their registrations , which is this Friday and any club that fails to meet this deadline is simply informing NLO indirectly that they are not interested in competing in the league this season.” Ogunnowo said.

    80 clubs are competing in the division one of the Nationwide League for 2016/17 season.
