A spirited performance capped with a brace from current Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) top scorer, Stephen Odey, earned Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries FC a 2-1 triumph over Plateau Untied FC in a Matchday 14 fixture played at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium on Sunday evening in Lagos.
The top-of-the-table clash between MFM FC and Plateau United lived up to expectations as both teams thrilled their fans with beautiful display of the round leather game.
High-flying MFM FC dominated the first five minutes of the proceedings and they almost got an opener when Adekunle Adegboyega tested John Gaadi but the visitors goalkeeper blocked his shot for a corner.
Plateau won their first free kick of the encounter in the 22nd minute, MFM FC's goalkeeper, Ospino Egbe tipped Elisha Golbe's well-taken free kick to corner.
The hosts continued with their fine display as they took possession of the game pressurizing the away team defense but the visitors were resolute with their defending. The 38th minute of the exchange saw Gaadi pulling another point blank save from Adegboyega's header.
With few minutes to end the first half Sikiru Olatunbosun and Stephen Odey combined well and their effort paid off and league top scorer put his team in front with a cool finish. MFM FC ended the first 45 minutes claiming a 1-goal lead.
Both teams began the second half on a high but they failed to create goal-scoring opportunities. The Olukoya Boys forced the visitors to their half with good passage of play. Odey had a chance to double his team's lead in the 58th minute but the visitors showstopper denied the hosts their lead.
The 28th minute of the match saw both teams scoring a goal each. Substitute Peter Eneji drew level for the Jos-based team as his effort beat MFM FC goalkeeper, Ospino Egbe.
MFM FC pressurized the hosts defense after Plateau United's equalizer as they poured forward in their number in search of the winning goal with series of counter attacking moves. Plateau United player, Hamisu, upended goal-bound Olatunbosun and the center referee pointed to the spot. Odey stepped forward and put his team back into the lead with a brilliant effort. The game ended with the hosts securing a deserved 2-1 victory over the away team.
The 2-1 victory has taken MFM FC from third to second spot on NPFL table with 24 points from 13 league matches.
