Nigerian clubs, Enugu Rangers and Rivers United will take on clubs from Rwanda and Zambia in the play-off of the 2017 Caf Confederation Cup.
Both clubs that represented Nigeria in the Caf Champions League were knocked out of the competition in the first round and will now drop to the Caf Confederation Cup to fight for a spot in the lucrative group stage. Nigerian champions, Enugu Rangers couldn’t cancel the 4-1 deficit from the first leg away to Egyptian club, Zamalek as they won 2-1 in Enugu but lost 5-3 on aggregate. Rivers United who were the second Nigerian club in the competition lost a 3-0 first leg win in Port Harcourt as they conceded four goals away to Al- Merrikh ( 3-4 on aggregate).
According to the draws held at Caf Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday, the Flying Antelopes were paired against Rayon Sports while the Pride of Rivers will face Zesco United.
The Nigerian clubs now have one more chance to make amends for their poor show in the Caf Champions league as they will both host their opponents in the weekend of April 7-9, 2017 then travel a week later for the second leg.
