Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) president Aminu Maigari has stated that the football body will not renege on its decision to sack Super Eagles assistant coach,Sylvanus Okpala.
Okpala was last year fired by the NFF,after they claimed acts of insubordination from the former Nigerian international.
Stephen Keshi has since reiterated his desire to
have Okpala reinstated to his technical crew, turning down offers from the NFF to have a foreign technical assistant.
But the NFF is adamant that there is no going back on Okpala, with Maigari insisting that he remains fired.
“Okpala was disengaged. He is not the first coach to be disengaged. Why should he be recalled?” Maigari told reporters in Cape Town South Africa.
“Nigeria is such a big country, blessed with a lot of talents. There are so many competent coaches in this country. It is nothing personal.”
Technical Committee member, Paul Bassey explained further why he was sacked: “Okpala was axed not because he was incompetent. He was good but was disengaged because of insubordination. It is not possible for him to be recalled,” Bassey was quoted as saying on Vanguard Sports.
