Olutayo FC Dangle NNWL Slot At Bolowotan FC

The usual trend of clubs selling league slots before the beginning of a season is becoming worrisome. Clubs, especially private owned clubs prefer to sell their slots in most cases when they gain promotion or if they are still in the league.

It might not be a common trend in the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) but from the Nigeria National League ( NNL)  down to the Nigeria Nationwide League ( NNWL) clubs put a price tag to their slot for interested buyer.

Footyalert met with a club proprietor in Abuja
who pleaded anonymity but chose to explain a recent drama involving Bolowotan FC and Olutayo FC.

According to the source, Bolowotan FC pulled out of the NNL after honoring six matches but couldn't continue due to lack of funds and thought it wise to give MFM FC their NNL slot for free. Mean while MFM FC who were meant to participate in the Nigeria Nationwide League (NNWL) that season took a smart step by selling their NNWL slot to Olutayo FC from Ilorin without consulting Bolowotan FC who gave them their slot for free. That season Olutayo FC featured in the NNWL.

He continued, as I'm speaking with you, Olutayo FC have put a million Naira price tag on their NNWL slot and funny enough the Ilorin base club have sent a plea to Bolowotan FC to come buy their slot.

Recently Meridian FC of Kano gained promotion from NNWL to NNL but they have since sold their slot to Kogi United who drowned in the NNL relegation waters last season. Newly formed Ekiti United have also secured a slot to feature in the NNL this season. Before Stationery Stores of Lagos secured Union Bank FC of Lagos slot the likes of Bussdor FC had shown interest to buy the slot.

Some time I laugh at the way we do things in my lovely Naija. Can you imagine clubs selling their slots. Why won't match fixing be obtainable in this climate.
