    Newly promoted Premier League hopefuls, Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia have continued to strengthen the squad in readiness for the kick off of the Glo Premier League next month with the recruitment of more established players.

    The latest to be cited in the Warriors’ Camp include goaltender, Olaniyi Fabiyi, who captained Bayelsa United to the third position of the Premier League in last season’s campaign, former Enyimba International of Aba captain, Chidozie Johnson and
    Abdulwasiu Showemimo who captained Kano Pillars to the semi-final of the CAF Champions League a couple of years ago.

    Also ready to do action for the Ochendo Babes is back-to-back winner of the CAF Champions League with Enyimba and member of Nigeria’s Supersand Eagles, Ogbonnaya Okemiri and Onyekachi Okoye, the veteran midfielder who was declared the most valuable player in the Nigerian Premier League after helping Lobi Stars of Makurdi win the FA Cup in 2003.

    The Anambra State – born Onyekachi Okoye, who last played for Sahel Sportivo of Niger Republic after coming back from Europe where he featured for Italian Clubsides like Primavera, AS Roma and Reggina, also played for a host of clubsides in Nigeria including Enyimba International of Aba, He said he was in Umuahia to help Abia Warriors Stabilize in the county’s elite League and win titles.

    Similarly, Olaniyi Fabiyi, the long term Bayelsa Utd captain, said he had to leave the club after six years to seek for fresh challenges.

    The former Enyimba, Niger Tornadoes of Minna and Gateway of Abeokuta Goalkeeper, who won four trophies with Bayelsa Utd, said he was one of the few players who remained with the club even after they were relegated and guided them back to the top class, insisting that he decided to join Abia Warriors to contribute his quota towards the building of a football club of tomorrow.

    He said with the caliber of players he has seen in camp, the sky will be the limit.

    Sowemimo, a reliable central defender and veteran of many national and continental soccer battles, featured for Sunshine Stars of Akure last Season after a stint with Dolphins of Port Harcourt and captained Kano Pillars for many years said it was his pleasure to play for an ambitious club like Abia Warriors, promising to bring his experience to bear.
