Okonkwo Targets Win In Uyo

Rivers United striker, Chinonso Okonkwo insists his side ‘must win’ against Akwa United in their final league game of the season on Sunday.

United virtually handed the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title to Enugu Rangers on match day 37 following a 0-0 draw at home to Abia Warriors.

Okonkwo was philosophical about the dropped points in Port Harcourt last Sunday but believes it is now time to steady the ship with a solid display against the Promise Keepers at the Nest of Champions.

Jordan 2016: Flamingoes resume training for Brazil

Ahead of their group phase clash with Brazil on Saturday, at the 5^th FIFA U17 Women's World Cup, Nigeria’s U17 girls, Flamingoes resumed training on Wednesday afternoon at the Al Wehdat Training Field, Amman with all 21 players participating actively. The girls were also scheduled to train at the same venue on Thursday.

The Nigeria team had arrived Amman on Tuesday morning, after flying from Abuja to Dubai and connecting another Emirates Airline flight from Dubai to the Jordanian capital.

Camara, Nyantakyi elected into FIFA Council

A Vice President of the Confederation of African Football, Almamy Kabele Camara and the President of Ghana Football Association, Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi have been elected into the FIFA Council.

The duo were elected at Thursday’s Extraordinary CAF General Assembly at the Marriott Hotel Zamalek, Cairo, ahead of two other candidates who showed interest: Ahmad (Madagascar) and Augustin Senghor (Senegal).

Guinean Camara polled 37 votes and Nyantakyi got 31, while Ahmad scored 30 and Senghor took the rear with only nine votes.

Camara and Nyantakyi, who has been president of Ghana FA since 2005, will serve in the position until March 17, 2017 when they will face re-election at the CAF Congress in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Fifa 2018 World Cup qualifier: NFF Assures On Super Eagles Trip Zambia

The Nigeria Football Federation has condemned, in very strong terms, a report in some media outlets including America’s Cable News Network (CNN) that it cannot fly the Super Eagles to a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match in Ndola on Sunday, 9th October 2016.

Nigeria’s football –governing body viewed the report as baseless, misleading and despicable, not only against Nigerian football, but against the Nigerian nation.

The NFF insisted that the report was the concoction of an idle mind and challenged the purveyors of the falsehood to name their source.

LMC announces N40m Prize Money for NPFL Champions

Champions of the 2015/16 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season stand to win N40m from the Merit Award of the League Management Company (LMC). Rangers International of Enugu and Rivers United of Port Harcourt are the two clubs in contention for the big prize money from a total of N200m pool set aside by the LMC as reward for final position on the league table at the end of the season on Sunday.

Last season, the highest payout from the Merit Award which went to Enyimba International was N30m from a total pool of N150m and this year’s figure of N200m represents an increase of 25%. The Merit Award pool has been witnessing an annual progression from N50m in 2012/13 to N75m in 2013/14 season and now N200m. The top three Clubs on the final table usually received the chunk of the Merit Award which supports the clubs financially in their preparation for the CAF Club competitions the next season.

Pinnick, Sanusi in Cairo for CAF Congress

NFF President Amaju Pinnick and Secretary General Mohammed Sanusi have arrived in Cairo for Thursday’s Extraordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football.

The Extraordinary General Assembly, to be addressed by CAF President, Alhaji (Dr.) Issa Hayatou, will take place at the imposing Marriott Hotel Zamalek in Cairo’s city centre.

Among items on the agenda is the election of two additional African members to the FIFA Council (formerly known as FIFA Executive Committee), as well as a proposal by the Football Federation of Djibouti for the modification of article 18.3 of CAF Statutes regarding the candidacy to the Presidency of CAF.

The Unpalatable Plight Of Ibom Angels

All isn't well in the camp of Ibom Angels as the Nigeria Women Premier League team haven't been well catered for by the club management in the ongoing league season.

The team is on half salary despite their good performance in the Group A of the top tier division.

May, June and July salaries was paid in half. The girls are yet to receive their August renumeration as they face a bleak future.

The highest paid player in Ibom Angels has a monthly salary of #55, 000. The girls are only given #1,500 daily for feeding in most cases when they travel for away games and sleep three per room in a sub-standard hotel.

Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr has replaced injured defender Leon Balogun with Uche Henry Agbo for next month’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier away to Zambia’s Chipolopolo in Ndola.

Holy Holy Holy Rangers - that is what is on the lips of every Rangers fan now, on October 2/2016 they will lift the NPFL trophy even though mathematically there is a chance they could still if they lose 4 nil to El Kanemi Warriors and Rivers United win their game( In my opinion it's not possible) .

The last time Rangers won the title was 32 years ago I wasn't even born then ( and please don't ask about my age) and only Okey Odita was a toddler and the rest of the team were not even born at that time.

Rangers deserve the NPFL title based on their form both home and away but it's the away form that is interesting because Rangers had the highest number of away points (15) and their style of football was eye catching and their attacking quartet CANE have been on fire since the season started and of course not forgetting the coach, Imama Amakapbabio who is the tactical genius in the dugout and credit should go to the Rangers board for sticking with him. He finished a disappointing 12th last season though he took charge on acting capacity but the decision to retain him has been a master stroke.

The Flamingoes on their way to glory

In case you are not familiar with who the Flamingoes are they are Nigeria's U-17 women football team who will fly the Green and White Nigerian flag on 1st October which coincidentally is Nigeria's Independence Day.

They trade tackle with Brazil, Korea DPR and England respectively in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Jordan.

Before a dive into the chances of the Flamingoes in this group let's give a brief history of Nigeria in this competition.

History

Nigeria has attended every U-17 female World Cup and were even quarter finalists in the last 3 editions, they will be hoping to go further than that this year as they will try to get past their tricky group.

How they qualified

The Flamingoes qualified with relative ease as they made light work of Namibia and South Africa as they defeated both countries home and away.

NFF, Police strategize on greater collaboration

During a courtesy visit to the new Commissioner of Police (FCT Command), CP Mohammed Mustafa on Tuesday, NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi underscored the importance of the Police to all events and activities of the football body.

“Security is a very key component in the organization of football, nay sporting events. Over the years, the NFF has received immense co-operation from the Police hierarchy for our events, including local and international matches. Federation Cup: Crown ambush FC IfeanyiUbah in Kaduna

Promotion –chasing Crown FC of Ogbomosho have two big games within a few days as they confront NPFL side FC IfeanyiUbah in the first semi final of the 2016 men’s Federation Cup competition on Wednesday.

Giant –killers Crown turned back NPFL title –chasing Enugu Rangers among other big conquests on their way to the last four, and would fear no foe when the whistle sounds for hostilities to commence at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

Dikko: Why we bailed out Women League

NFF 2^nd Vice President and Chairman, League Management Company, Mallam Shehu Dikko has explained to thenff.com that the N10 million bailout handed to the Nigeria Women Football League was part of a solidarity payment that other Leagues have benefitted from in the recent past.

Last week, the League Management Company came to the rescue of the Nigeria Women Football League with the sum of N10 million, for the NWFL to successfully prosecute the second round of the season.

A number of Clubs had ran foul of the provisions of the NWFL regulations, failing to honour three matches, and were subsequently thrown out of the League. However, with the lifeline from the LMC, the NWFL has been able to restore all the expelled Clubs back to the League and reschedule their matches. The NWFL is now in a position to pay indemnities of match officials, taking the responsibility off host teams. The matches resumed at the weekend.

Flamingoes land in Jordan

The delegation of Nigeria’s U17 Women National Team, Flamingoes, flew into Jordan on Tuesday morning aboard an Emirates Airline flight from Dubai. The contingent had flown out of Abuja aboard another Emirates Airline flight on Monday night.

The 32 –member delegation comprising of 21 players, 9 Officials, NFF Assistant Technical Director, Abdulrafiu Yusuf and Head of Women Football, Ruth David were on board the same Emirates Airline flight from Dubai with Group C opponents, Korea Democratic People’s Republic. The airplane landed at the Queen Alia International Airport, Amman at 9.25am Jordan time on Tuesday.

The Nigeria delegation was received Head of Chancery, Nigerian Embassy, Abdulhamid Aminu and Ernest Orogun, the Communications Officer, as well as members of the Local Organizing Committee of the 5th FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup. The players and officials later left for Le Royal Hotels and Resorts, Amman where they are lodged.

Jos Appeal Court Orders non-tampering with subject of LMC Appeal

The Court of Appeal, Jos Division which sat on Monday has directed that there should be no attempt to tamper with the subject matter of the appeal file by the League Management Company (LMC) against the orders of Justice I.I. Kunda of the Plateau State High Court, Jos. This is even as the Inspector General of Police on Monday increased Police presence at the premises of the LMC to protect the staff and its activities.

In a related matter, the Court of Appeal also resolved the issue of who can make legal appearance for NFF. The court ruled that Barrister Maduabuchi who was appointed by Yahaya Adama, an ally if Chris Giwa , cannot claim to be representing NFF when their group is still battling in court to prove their claim at the Supreme Court.

Justice Kunda had amongst several rulings ordered the LMC to reinstate Giwa FC in the 2015/16 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and also the committal to prison of LMC Chairman, Shehu Dikko and Salihu Abubakar, the Chief Operating Officer on contempt charges.

2018 FIFA World Cup:Port Harcourt ready to host Nigeria, Algeria match

NFF Statement on illegal invasion of LMC office

It has come to the notice of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that on Wednesday, 21^st September 2016, 4 (four) persons who introduced themselves as detectives from the FCT Police Command went to the office of the League Management Company (LMC) ostensibly to arrest its Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko (also NFF 2^nd Vice President) and its COO, Alhaji Salihu Abubakar, allegedly pursuant to a Jos High Court order in flagrant abuse of the time honoured decorum of our judicial system where the Orders of the lower courts stand suspended when an appeal has been entered in a higher court and an application for Stay of Execution duly filed.

The time has come for all peace loving and law abiding Nigerians to stand up against the continued intimidation of private citizens and institutions using both fabricated and/or void court orders as well as people whose status as police officers raises doubt.

The entire football family has raised its voice time and again against those plotting to derail our football by using unwarranted and dubious litigation. We at the NFF as custodians of Nigerian Football and Licensors of the Nigeria Professional Football League reiterate the condemnation of the actions of these charlatans whose interest is contrary to the interest of Nigerian Football and indeed Nigeria. We remain steadfast in our support of the LMC and its officials and we will continue our quest for justice and ensure that Football is the winner at the end of this ugly incident.

The four time Nigerian champions are known for the massive support they enjoy at home in Kano and across Nigeria, they are one of the biggest football brand as long as domestic club

Lawyer turned Sportspreneur ‘Sayo Owolabi hosted a week long Football Fiesta in his hometown Ogbomoso as 8 Under 15 Teams participated in the SAYO OWOLABI 5-A-SIDE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT at the main bowl of the Ogbomoso High School pitch.

The Tournament which kicked off on Sunday September 4, 2016 had the teams squaring in 2 Groups with Galaxy FC, Broncos FC, JK Boys and Feeders Strikers paired in Group A while Group B had Hossan FC, Awoye United FC, Flying Horse FC and Ultimate FC.

After the First round, Broncos FC took on Flying Horse FC in the semi finals and won via penalties while Awoye United with a late goal defeated JK Boys in the other semi final. The third place match ended via penalties in favour of Flying Horse FC.

Papua New Guinea 2016: Dedevbo calls 30 to camp

Head Coach of the U20 Women National Team, Peter Dedevbo has invited forward Chinwendu Ihezuo and 29 other players to camp to kick –start preparations for the 8th FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup taking place in Papua New Guinea later this year.

The Falconets, who pounded Liberia, Democratic Republic of Congo and South Africa home and away in the qualifying series, will tackle Japan, Canada and Spain (in that order) at the finals scheduled for 13th November – 3rd December in the tiny nation located in the Pacific Ocean.

Among those invited are goalkeeper Sandra Chichi, defenders Ugochi Emenayo, Esther Elijah, midfielders Joy Bokiri and Tessy Biawho and forwards Uchenna Kalu, Yetunde Adeboyejo and Chinaza Uchendu.

Wikki Tourist Not Ready To Give Up On NPFL Title

Abdul Maikaba has declared that Wikki Tourists will not throw in the towel in the title race of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) this season.

Wikki hurled themselves into the title race on Sunday following a 1-0 victory over Rivers United at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi on Sunday.

Maikaba, the head coach of Wikki, believes the win over the Port Harcourt club on Sunday is the catalyst that will propel his side to unlikely success in the NPFL.

“We had planned to score (early) but also knew we could score at any time (during the game).

“My boys were patient and continued putting pressure on the opponents.

Remembering A Tragedy

Only days ago, players and officials of Heartland of Owerri were involved in a car accident in Maiduguri on their way to honor a league match. It brought back painful memories of a very similar event that happened on this same month 22 years ago. Ides of September?

It was also a Sunday like this. Glued to our portable Sharp black and white television that late evening, I heard the Newscaster announce on the 7pm News that an aircraft carrying players and crew of Iwuanyanwu Nationale (now Heartland FC) had crashed on their way back from a continental game against Esperance of Tunis which they lost 3-0.

My blood ran cold.

Normally such news items were usually broken first on national news but I don’t know why it was first reported on NTA Channel 8, Enugu. Anyways, the coming days saw the news covered ad nauseam on state and national TV.

Celebrations at the Cathedral as Rangers Reclaim top Spot

Bobby Clement netted twice in each half of the Match Day 36 fixture at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium to return the Coal City club to the summit of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) log after rivals, Rivers United went down to a Christopher Waziri goal in Bauchi against Wikki Tourists.

As though there has been a premonition of what the Flying Antelopes will turn the season into, the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium was renamed the Cathedral at the start of the season and 'worshippers' have been trooping in like never seen since the shine went off the Rangers all white outfit. But Coach Imama Ampakabo and his young squad seem to have the right kind of vim to return the sheen.

Sunshine Stars started the match in Enugu perhaps with an intent to curtail their hosts and they did just that for most of the first half until the last quarter when lanky Bobby Clement made his physical attributes count. Rangers thus climbed to 57 points, one point ahead of former leaders, Rivers United.
