When MFM FC squared up against the NPFL champions last weekend, they approached the match with a confidence that depicts that which David in the Bible stoop up with against Goliath.
Though such has been the case with other clubs who have come up against the People's Elephant this season, with the champions playing very far from their dreaded best.
The Olukoya Boys who enjoyed a fairytale start to life in their debut
NPFL season have been gradually, as the weeks turned to months, brought to the harsh reality of playing in the Nigerian
topflight.
This is indicated on the 16th position they currently find themselves on the NPFL standings. A position that approximates them closer to be swept off by relegation waters.
Early in the season, they were likened to do the unthinkable thing done by Leicester City in the English Premier League, something the club chairman Godwin Enakhena said he always rebuked knowing such tag was too early to lay claim to.
Speaking to Footyalert, the renowned sports journalist and analyst was
upbeat MFM FC will not be relegated.
"We took advantage of the champions form aiming to secure maximum points, we were just condemned to win that match.
He also acknowledged inexperience as one of the reasons to the club's current fortunes but believes they will definitely negotiate their way to safety.
"I was never carried away by our early season exploits, we are new and inexperienced but we will work very hard to win our remaining two matches starting with Niger Tornadoes on Sunday. We will not be relegated," Enakhena told Footyalert
To obtain a truly Professional League, we have always clamoured for
privately owned clubs in the NPFL - a reason we hope that the Olukoya Boys
remained in the topflight.
